Luigi Mangione gets stuck in courthouse elevator before judge delays federal trial until 2027 (state case Sep 8)

Luigi Mangione’s wild ride through the justice system stalled out Monday — when he got stuck in a Manhattan court elevator for 20 minutes, delaying a hearing in his federal case.

The 28-year-old accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was in the lift with his escort of US Marshals, headed to the courtroom, when the contraption suddenly stopped, courthouse sources told The Post.

“It was some sort of elevator issue, that’s all I know,” Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, said when asked about the snafu outside the courtroom.

“Can’t wait to hear what you guys find out about that!” she added when another journalist grilled her for specifics on the elevator situation.

After a brief delay, Mangione, clad in tan jail scrubs, eventually made it to the courtroom, where Judge Margaret Garnett pushed his federal trial back to January 2027 to allow time for a separate state case starting Sept. 8.

His federal trial had been supposed to start in October, but Garnett said she did not want both trials to potentially take place concurrently.

PLEASE tell me that for 20 minutes this POS was ‘stuck in the elevator’ with a HUGE, rabid Gangster-type that absolutely LOVED his Insurance Company!

I would say he got a rise out of that, but actually he didn’t.

WHY is there a STATE trial and a FEDERAL trial? I googled it but it doesn’t make any sense. They couldn’t reach an agreement the creep gets one trial for murder and leave it at that?

Ha.

Better take the time to really talk with him and hand him an acoustical guitar so he can sing “Down In the Valley.”

Possible jury nullification via State trial as a backup JIC.

Legally though he crossed State lines while “allegedly” violating fire arm laws, with the kicker being leading to murder/escaping thereof.

The method is considered the "dual sovereignty doctrine" so avoids double-jeopardy protection.

Maybe the prisoner wanted to tell the cops some things in private.

After my days on patrol in a sub I don't like elevators, ESPECIALLY some of the older ones.

Get in elevator

doors stay open,...open...open...

doors close....wait...wait...wait..

elevator begins to move...slowly...

moving...moving...moving...

elevator stops... wait...wait...wait.. . doors open slowly...

exhale

shudder

Well the old belt lifts ran continuously. You step on the lift platform and grab the one at chest height. Up you went, then Stepped off at desired floor.
“Be sure and get off at the top floor” they said. If you staid on there was a bar that knocked you off at the top. That way you didn’t go over the top.
Very common elevator type in garages, feed mills and such.
The old wooden elevators came with a different warning. Bend your knees before the bottom floor because that’s where it stops!
