You Can OFFICIALLY Keep Windows 10 Until 2027

The transcript from the video would be too long to post here, but the gist of the video is about how Microsoft is extending the ESU program until Oct 2027, and maybe even into 2028.

I thought maybe folks here would want to know because it makes getting new hardware to support Windows 11 unnecessary as long your IT device still runs good and has Windows 10, like mine. I was going to put together a system to dual boot W11 and Linux but I'm putting that off for now.

I still use my W10 laptops for music in the kitchen and in a store room, this keeps them secure even though I’m not using them for other things.

The world is full of great hi-tech W10 computers, it will be a shame to make them suddenly obsolete for those who use them as their primary computer.

Microsoft stock has been in the dumpster since last October. It needs a real shakeup at the top levels.

What I did was to yes, get an account, but I didn’t sign onto W10 with it. I still used my local account. But I have MS Office and when I opened up Word I logged in at the top with my MS account. Then I went into Settings, Update and Security, and followed the prompts to get it set up. If you look through ThioJoe’s videos, he has one or two show how it’s done and a few things to trick the system.

I’m happy the deadline has been extended.

I’m still going to look for a new laptop in the meantime.

Some folks think that one of the reasons for extending the ESU is keep people from switching to Linux.

I did this months ago for one of my old Dells.

I downloaded Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 from...

https://archive.org/details/en-us_windows_10_iot_enterprise_ltsc_2021_x64_dvd_257ad90f_202301

...and got a license key for $9.99 from...

https://flixeasy.com/product/microsoft-windows-10-iot-enterprise-ltsc-2021-lifetime-license-for-1-pc/

Burned the Windows ISO to a bootable flash drive with Rufus, booted from it and followed the directions.

I was planning to switch one Win10 machine in Linux (Microsoft wouldn’t let me upgrade to 11). Currently one Win7, two Win10, two Win11 (one of which was upgraded from Win10). Both computers and smart phones outnumber the humans in the household.

Frankly, if they’d sell me XP, I’d be happy to downgrade a couple of the machines.

I forgot to mention Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 remains fully supported by Microsoft with an end-of-life date of January 13, 2032.

My mom can’t install Windows 11 without a new computer. Not gonna happen. It’s an unnecessary expense in both money and time just to keep using the same games and programs she’s using now.

I took the dive last year thinking it would be easy to convert the drive from MBR, install on a nice new gaming rig and then upgrade to Windows 11 on the new computer. While eventually successful, it was a nightmare of pain guided by AI, which I suspect was on drugs at the time.

I think (1) Microsoft panicked when they did not even come close to their projections for Windows 11 upgrades; then (2) realized that even fewer people CAN upgrade to Win 11 because the prices of CPUs, GPUs, RAM and SSDs have gone through the roof.
