Over the years, I’ve had many different social media conversations with people who are leftists. Not political conversations (I avoid open social media discussion of politics with leftists), but rather many other topics. I have found a common pattern; they seem to have a remarkable lack of self-esteem, because they often seek only sympathy or praise, and they share an insatiable desire to be miserable. There is no desire to have a conversation or intellectual debate. Although there are many examples, I will limit myself to three (chronologically widely spaced) in this article.
I should preface this with some background; I am a successful engineer who has designed and produced many different complex mechanical products (I have eight patents), whose product longevity ends up being typically longer than prior art. I credit that achievement with an innate understanding of statistical probabilities and the ability to exercise creativity in the industries where I’ve applied it. I thrive on statistics not only in my professional life but also my private life, which sometimes maddens my wife when we play board games, and I spend too much time examining probabilities.
Story #1: When COVID hysteria was headlining social media, I followed much of the hype with great interest, hoping to learn as much as I could about this “novel” virus from available data. While New York City was publicly hailed as the COVID “hot spot,” I examined available data from CDC (as skewed as it was…) and could not confirm it. But my leftist friends were apoplectic about the lack of support and sympathy for all those poor New Yorkers who were dropping dead in the streets. In some of their social media posts, I pointed out how there was an abundant lack of actual data to support that conclusion.

Leftism is the religion of the malcontents. The COVID response was a great opportunity to view the differences between left and right.
They are not big on facts that contradict their self-inflicted misery.
It’s long been my opinion that the leftists I know wish for us all to be miserable together. Shared misery is not misery at all, as far as they are concerned.
Misery loves company so yeah.
This is the classic sign of a covert narcissist. They don't have conversations: they put on performances, and they expect only applause and support, and lots of it.

What they desire is for everyone else to be just as miserable as they are.
Leftists don’t have a DESIRE to be miserable. They ARE miserable, usually for reasons having to do with their own bad decisions, lifestyle choices, poor personal discipline, lack of effort, sometimes substance abuse, and sometimes some chronic mental illness.
What leftists have in common is a refusal to take personal responsibity for any of this. The wisdom of the ages says to put one’s own house in order, properly order one’s soul, come to realistic terms with one’s talents and limitations, etc.
But since leftists don’t do this, they project. All their problens are someone else’s fault. Life is unfair. The universe is not magically designed to advance their own gratification. Etc. And this leads to a furious resentment of other people who are happier, more contented, and more successful because they have better priorities, have made better choices, and try to deal realistically with realities.
Leftists conclude that the game has been rigged, other people have cheated or perhaps just gotten lucky, and that they (the leftists) are entitled to equality ... which morphs into endless looting and downward leveling.
No one wants to be miserabe. But this is why misery loves company. Leftists will systematically sabotage people who outshine them. Diana Moon Glompers is an ideal, not a dystopian caricature.
Hey, we’re absolutely happy when leftists are not. This indicates civilizational progress.

I’ve found them to be largely pessimistic about human capability, while also being narcissistic. It results with the “white savior” attitude, thinking they’re better than everyone else while having low expectations for them, virtue signaling that they “care” so much, because everyone else, especially minorities, are beneath them...so they must need “help”.
They are fools with no faith, that believe science disproves God, which is nothing but a justification for their immoral behavior.
