If aliens had to survive on Earth, what exactly would they eat?

ET: The Extraterrestrial, the titular alien is seen eating and drinking all manner of human foods and beverages from chocolates to tins of beer.

In reality, however, it is unlikely that an entity that lived and evolved on another world would be capable of consuming and digesting the same types of foods as we are.

Professor Jose Miguel Soriano del Castillo of the University of Valencia ,,,argues that dining on the same foods that humans eat would be highly risky for a visitor from another world and that their best bet would be to instead seek out the individual nutrients and raw materials of food such as water, nitrogen, salts and basic organic molecules.

As for what an alien might typically eat on its own planet - it's difficult to speculate because it depends entirely on the biology of the alien and the nature of its planet's atmosphere.

If we were ever in a position in which we had to provide food to an alien visitor, we would likely need a whole team of scientists and nutritionists to determine what it could and could not eat.

Feeding it the wrong thing - no matter how well-intentioned - could prove fatal.

Just saw that episode for the first time recently in one of those Twilight Zone marathons. Very graphic and gory. Lots of blood for back then.

Probably the same stuff they ate on their spaceship during the 4,000 light years they traveled to get here.

There are only three things that provide calories to non-bacteria, Carbohydrates (Sugars & Hydrocarbons), Proteins (Meat and beans), and alcohol (yeah!).

Beyond that, you are eating for vitamins and minerals.

Any group that is smart enough to do interplanetary travel should be able to process whatever they need from local materials.

There were a lot of future stars on “Twilight Zone.” I remember an episode starring Donna Douglas as a woman getting repeated surgeries to make her look “normal.” Turns out the so-called normal people looked a lot like pigs.

“They Live” had the most brutal fight scene I’ve ever seen. And it went on forever ...

Watch Robert Bloch’s “Asylum”.

4 vignettes, inside a surrounding story, set an insane asylum.

Each of the 4. in some way, pays a hidden tribute/homage to a famous SF author or their work.

Bonus, the orderly is Max Reynolds; and at the end, the new doctor arriving is holding a Clark Bar.

One example is the miniature dolls one inmate makes: Bloch at one time stated that he admired how Asimov for the way he was able to “breath life” into his robots.

Another, Ray Bradbury often had a major character wearing an ice cream suit.

I’ll let you guess about the other two.

Bonus bonus: Ray wrote a later movie, “The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit”.

Those were all 10/10 episodes . Amazing how many one can remember after all these years . The Monsters Are Due On Maple St. was a classic , too . Another fave was the one with Jack Warden in which he plays a convict on an asteroid and is brought a female robot ( Jean Marsh ! ) to keep him company . Yet another I loved was the one in which 3 astronauts crash land on an “ earth like “ asteroid . One kills the others one by one for the water and in the end discovers they in fact crash landed in the desert on earth . The one with Roddy McDowell - another astronaut - is treated like royalty by people on another planet only to find out he is an exhibit in a zoo !

Big ol paper Phone Books, when they can find any.
In case of shortages, “Don’t squeeze the Charmin!”
It tastes better with no wrinkles or unsightly folds.
Color dyed bathroom tissue is known to be a rare delicacy.

I remember all those episodes. I also recall an episode with Robert Duvall, who falls in love with a woman inside a dollhouse exhibit.
