ET: The Extraterrestrial, the titular alien is seen eating and drinking all manner of human foods and beverages from chocolates to tins of beer.
In reality, however, it is unlikely that an entity that lived and evolved on another world would be capable of consuming and digesting the same types of foods as we are.
Professor Jose Miguel Soriano del Castillo of the University of Valencia ,,,argues that dining on the same foods that humans eat would be highly risky for a visitor from another world and that their best bet would be to instead seek out the individual nutrients and raw materials of food such as water, nitrogen, salts and basic organic molecules.
As for what an alien might typically eat on its own planet - it's difficult to speculate because it depends entirely on the biology of the alien and the nature of its planet's atmosphere.
If we were ever in a position in which we had to provide food to an alien visitor, we would likely need a whole team of scientists and nutritionists to determine what it could and could not eat.
Feeding it the wrong thing - no matter how well-intentioned - could prove fatal.

They eat us like we eat chicken
Mickey D’s, Taco Bell. The usual.
“How to Serve Man”. It’s, it’s, it’s — it’s a COOKBOOK! Aiyeee!
Hopefully liberals, and islamists.
“Feeding it the wrong thing - no matter how well-intentioned - could prove fatal.”
Good. Get off my Planet. We have enough problems here as it is already!
But if you’re willing to take a bunch of Socialist Democrats back into outer space with you, then tell me what you need to eat to survive and I will gladly provide it for you. ;)
I believe the answer is fairly obvious.
They will eat whatever the @&#c* they want!
Hopefully, Democrats.
Like a stray. If you feed it, it won’t leave.
LOL! A classic! I can’t remember any other ‘Twilight Zone’ that surpassed that!
Maybe that kid that banished you to the Corn Field, or Robert Redford’s debut performance as DEATH?
Classics, all!
Oh, and Shatner seeing the scary monster on the wing of the airplane...or him taking advice from a table jukebox while his car was in the shop?
Good Times! :)
NOT!
How do you know they need to eat?
Rice and beans.
Plastic.
They could share nourishment with the breatharians.
Given what they're inclined to do to their own bodies, it might be in the best interests of the aliens to avoid any liberal.
How about a nice serving of Soylent Green?
!!BRAINS!!
