Not going to argue with your premise but the North America British colonies weren’t the big buyers.

Most African slaves went to where the money was; the Caribbean and South America. Sugar cane was the big money maker and there were few places in British America where it could be grown. By the time cotton was a big, the U.S. had banned the international slave trade, and more importantly the U.K. actively suppressed it.
