Juneteenth
President Biden made June 19th a Federal Holiday on June 17, 2021.
The slave owners in Galveston, Texas, deliberately hid the news of the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1865, from enslaved people to maintain forced labor. There was no one to enforce the law until Major General Granger arrived on June 19 with 2,000 Union Troops to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation for enslaved people.
I wondered why the Democrats celebrate an event that paints them in a negative light. A National Holiday commemorating the Republican defeat of the Democratic institution of slavery?
I found out why the Democrats celebrate their failure. Get ready for it, the parties switched. Yes, indeed, many liberal democrat followers fervently believe that the two parties switched. The Pro-Slavery Democrats are now the Anti-Slavery party, and the Republican Party, created to free the slaves, is now the Pro-Slavery party, or as the democrats like to express it, the racist party.
They have one senator and the name of one congressional representative who switched parties. The Democrats assert that as evidence that the party switched as a collective.
The parties had not switched when the Democrats voted against the 13th Amendment to free the slaves.
The parties had not switched when the Democrats voted against the 14th Amendment to make freed slaves citizens.
The parties had not switched when the Democrats voted against the 15th Amendment to allow freed slaves to vote.
I’ll skip the various civil rights legislation leading up to the 1964 Voting Rights Act, where the Democrats conducted the longest Democrat filibuster against the Civil Rights Act, and a Republican senator broke the Democrat filibuster.

Signed into law right after every Democrat senator voted in favor and after every Republican senator voted in favor of the holiday.
Juneteenth. The HOLIDAY ABOUT NOTHING. Not one of the bass turds celebrating today had anything to do with this. None were slaves. None picked cotton. All the did was live of the American welfare system. Biden needs an ass whooping for inventing this crap holiday. IMHO.
Unfortunately what matters to most people is who talks about the past the most, not who actually did what in the past. The Dims give themselves fake credit today for being against past slavery by simply talking about it a lot today. Your post is 100% right that the Dims were pro-slavery, the Republicans were against slavery (created by the abolitionists), and the parties didn’t switch sides.
But again, little of that matters to most people today. What matters to most people today is who makes the most noise about it today.

Of course, Kentucky and Delaware held onto slavery until the 13th Amendment, months after “Juneteenth”.
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued January 1, 1863. So the news was hidden for 2.5 years, not just 6 months.
The really amazing thing is that this was the very last plantation to receive the information. According to the 1860 Census, Austin and San Antonio had slaves. So did southern Florida. All those plantations got the news before Galveston?
Have you ever tried riding from Virginia to Texas, let alone from the Texas line to west of Austin, on a horse, checking every plantation to see if it was harboring slaves?
Democrat Senator Robert Byrd was a KKK member AND a democrat - I believe Obama spoke at his funeral the funeral of a different former KKK member.. And yeah, democrats knew their own history - they lied about it. There were many rumors around that time that LBJ (democrat president) was a former KKK member in Texas.
George Wallace who ‘stood in the School House Door’ to stop black children from integrating schools in the Jim Crow South was a democrat (who later became an Independent - but NEVER a Republican)
Bull Connor who unleased dogs on Civil Rights workers was a democrat.
The KKK and White Citizens Council were democrat filled organizations.
The three civil rights workers killed in Mississippi in 1964 were ALL killed by registered democrats.
The men who tortured and murdered Emmet Till were democrats. (His Aunt raised him in Chicago - not his mother)
When MLK did his most important civil rights work he was a
registered Republican. Later he switched parties.
Democrats in the Jim Crow South - when they knew they had lost the issue went from, “Blacks can do no right - to blacks can do no wrong’. Both positions damaged the black community. Democrats ran to the front of the civil rights parade shortly after Republicans passed major civil rights legislation in 1963/1964 - legislation opposed by democrats.
The official name of the holiday Biden signed into law is “Juneteenth National Independence Day”.
WHAT the H*** does THAT mean? Who chose the name? Independence from whom? For whom?
This is the “holiday” they have the Lazy Boy Chair sales and everyone takes their old worn-out Lazy Boys out and throws them on the shoulder next to the highway.
In Delaware’s case they didn’t even ratify the 13th amendment until into the 1900’s. Of course this deep blue state in 2026 will slobber all over itself about Juneteenth or whatever it is.
Juneteenth celebrates Republicans forcibly freeing slaves that Democrats held.
