Wendy's Testing New 'dynamic Pricing': Will You Pay More?

Wendy's announced that it will be testing something calling "dynamic pricing." Will you pay more for the same product?

Dynamic pricing at fast food restaurants means your favorite sandwich or chicken nuggets could cost more -- or less -- depending on what time of day you go. The busier the restaurant is, the more it'll cost you. Dynamic pricing is similar to the surge pricing model used on apps like Uber or Lyft, waltham forest where prices go up and down based on customer demand.

Food industry experts say dynamic pricing could soon take over the entire industry in the next few years as companies look to maximize sporting kc vs portland profits. Wendy's just happens to be the first major fast food chain to give it a test in the American market

In the final quarter of 2025, The Wendy's Company reports that same-store sales dipped a whopping 11.3% in the U.S., capping off a year that saw an overall reduction in sales of 5.6% in the U.S. and 3.5% globally. Right alongside these negative financials, Wendy's stock price took a battering over the same period. Shares were valued at over $16 at the beginning of 2025, but by the start of 2026 they had lost about half of their value, dropping down to just over $8. Evidence of the company's financial struggles extend beyond stock tickers and earnings reports, however, manifesting in ways that affect both consumers and employees.

I like Wendy’s burgers, but I don’t visit the place when it’s busy. Not because I care about the cost, it’s because if there are 2 cars in any Wendy’s drivethru, good luck getting your food in under at least 10 minutes.

If you’re traveling anywhere, who the hell wants to wait on that. McDonalds, gets you through and down the road.

I’d prefer our own food or a sit down somewhere but sometimes needs must.

So some person with little self-control goes into Wendy’s, expecting to pay $4 for a hamburger. And he’s told he’s two minutes late. That hamburger is now $6.

I predict some Chuck E. Cheese style fighting in Wendy’s future.

The problem dynamic pricing is having is they keep saying it wrong. If you say “we’re going to charge more during peak hours” people whine incessantly. If you say “half priced drinks during slow times” (ie “happy hour”) everybody thinks it’s awesome.

Wow, fast food is already too high and many are not buying it. Now I won’t even know what I am paying till I get to the window. Hard pass...

Wendy’s is dying and they think this will help. Dave would be rolling in his grave.

The nearest Wendy’s to me is over 160 miles away, so no, I won’t pay more.

I love how businesses take stuff away from you or make it worse and then call it an improvement.

Wendy’s is at least edible, so there’s that but I get the point.

Amazon does this. My granddaughter was looking at something she wanted and said it was $16.99. When she handed me the phone, it was $9.99. Then it refreshed and went up to $16.99 again.

I signed into my account and it was $9.99 and that is what we paid. I have had an account for over 20 years, so I guess I get better deals.

That one’s a beautiful lie. Most women stay far far away from “ladies drink free” nights because they know it’ll filled with poor guys looking to not spend money “buying” them drinks. But the pathetic dudes show up in droves.

Back in my day, we would take women out to the popular clubs on Ladies Night to save money. Plus, the popular clubs is where they would go anyway if single.

Times change...

Yeah, just wait until the price bumps as soon as some feral steps up to the register.

A better system would be one where the charge extra depending on how long you take to order.

I’m always amazed there are dummies standing in long lines and only begin to think about what they want when they get to the register.

Service at all the bama stores is crap. The only one i go to anymore is the I-65 Oak mountain exit. They are actually timley, pleasant, and are stocked—no running out of stuff.

I think garages should offer lower labor rates when they are looking for customers. Labor on sale.

The fact that the c-suite types at Wendy’s never thought to describe this a “happy hours” or “discount times” is amazing. It like they are trying to lose customers.

There is zero reason to call them pathetic, they are just guys who like the bar and prefer it even more when females are in higher numbers.

Why would you call men showing up where partying and females are, pathetic, and since when did females who like drinking, bars, and men, start avoiding bars with free drinks and men?

My local Wendy’s has a great staff; enthusiastic, friendly, and efficient. A stop there is on my weekly grocery run. If I have to go inside to decide if the current price is worth it, they’ll lose a loyal customer.

And what about the occasional customer who gets there during the high price time - they’ll remember that high price as normal. So, they risk losing both the regular and the occasional customer, neither of whom want to be bothered with keeping track of a changeable price.

Yeah, that’s what kills me on this. Dynamic pricing has existed as long as I’ve been alive, they just push when it’s cheap, not expensive. If they really wanted their stuff to cost more in peak hours then raise the price, and introduce early bird specials, and happy hour, and late night specials, and people won’t even notice there’s only 4 hours a day when you’re charging full price.
