We've got another update on the Arkansas man who shot his daughter's alleged rapist and then ran for sheriff.
And it's a good update.
Charges were dropped, the case dismissed, and Aaron Spencer is that much closer to becoming sheriff of Lonoke County.
Special Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. dismissed the case against Aaron Spencer on Thursday afternoon — just a few weeks before his trial on the second-degree murder charge was expected to begin — because a dash camera memory card that may have captured the shooting was lost by law enforcement.
Oh man, I can't believe they lost the incriminating evidence against this man who did what many a good father would do. Oh well, I guess they have to let him go.
'The court finds that conduct by law enforcement was so egregious that dismissal of this case is warranted,' Wilson wrote ...
Spencer said in a statement Thursday that the support from the community 'carried our family.'
'Neighbors here in Lonoke County, people from every part of Arkansas, and folks I've never met from around the world reached out, prayed for us, and refused to stay quiet,' Spencer said. 'When I couldn't speak for myself, you spoke for me. I'll never be able to thank you the way you deserve, but I'll spend the rest of my life trying to live up to it.'
Spencer's attorney, Erin Cassinelli, said she is thankful for the court's decision.
'No member of this family should ever again be forced to walk into a courtroom and relive this horror,' she said in a statement. 'This father should have never been charged for protecting his child.'
Congratulations to Spencer and the people of Lonoke County who are in all likelihood about to have a sheriff with a lion's heart take charge of the county.
Aaron Spenser’s campaign website does not say what his current occupation is. One article I found cited his military background as a leadership qualification. He was not an MP.
I would be hard pressed to say he meets the requirements to be elected as a sheriff.
To become an Arkansas sheriff, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Arkansas.
Be at least 21 years old at the time of election or appointment.
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; some counties may require a college degree.
Complete a law enforcement training program approved by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
Pass a background check, including criminal history and psychological evaluation.
Maintain a valid Arkansas driver’s license and have a good driving record.
I propose restraining the rapist in a compromising position in a horse pen full of studs, spraying him with heat spray, injecting the horses with Viagra, and live streaming it with the caption “This is what happens to rapists.”
Imagine if most of those same qualifications were required to vote.................
"Lost"??? Really?
Or did public servants corruptly conspire to destroy evidence (a felony) in order to protect a member of their gang?
Does ANYBODY seriously believe that any public servants would enter into such a corrupt conspiracy to protect a mere "civilian"?
No?
Didn't think so.
Exactly. My wife knows the family and the LEs there well.
Lol. Not in Loanoke, AR.
Not a lot of politicians or power brokers. Tiny city.
Okay, then I am completely for multiple, grotesque rapes of the men.
That is the way!
Keep ‘em alive, but with no functioning anus or even teeth, left, after the required rapes.
I like your idea!
Grok: Law enforcement training/certification (CLEST-approved academy), psychological evaluation (if not done pre-election), and full formal background processes can generally be completed post-election.
Did what needed doing. My hats off to him.
Agreed. Corrupt cops.
They used to. Even in California.
“Then all rapists would feel the need to kill their victims?
The punishment must fit the crime.”
Not clear what you are saying here.
Sounds like you are saying that “Rapists should (NOT) get capital punishment.” because then they ALL MIGHT kill their victims.
An ABSURD position.
“The punishment must fit the crime.”
Here I would somewhat agree. The term “rape” has been bastardized to include so many different sexual encounters that should not be classified as rape rape. In other words REAL rape. VIOLENT rape.
Should violent FORCED rapists get the death penalty?
Absolutely YES!
Should a female teacher get the death penalty for having consensual sex with a student?
Absolutely NOT!
You obviously do not know where of you speak. My mother was raped when she was nine. The consequences have rippled down through me to my daughter to my granddaughter. A rape destroys the person who was, what they were is dead. All must somehow re-create a life, but it will never be the life that they had beforehand. How nice that so many people are able to recover so well. But that says absolutely nothing about the extent of the crime of taking someone’s very soul for their own! And then claiming oh here it is again, nothing like it was before.
I got some of my criminal clients a walk for similar screwups with evidence. Once potential evidence of innocence is in police hands, they must hang onto it or have a real good excuse for losing it or making it unavailable.

What a shame. I am proud of the officer(s) that misplaced this.
