Analysis finds “hot spots” for glyphosate and cancer in Iowa and other Midwest states

A new analysis links high use of the weed killer glyphosate to elevated rates of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), particularly in the Midwest, reinforcing years of research linking cancer to the weed killer made popular by Monsanto..

A map of the hotspots shows clusters of NHL rates particularly high in many parts of Iowa, the nation’s top corn-growing state...

Iowa has the second-highest rate of cancer in the nation and is only one of three states where cancer is rising, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Do they say it’s because they are getting it on their skin? Or it’s getting in the water supply? Or is it the food that grows later in the ground where this was used getting into humans? Curious what the delivery mechanism is for it.

Contaminated water supply has become a major campaign issue, and the MAHA Republican, Zach Lahn, beat out Trump-endorsed Randy Feenstra in the Iowa primary this week for emphasizing it.

Hardly a compelling study.

An activist environmental group hand picks counties where it thinks cancer rates should be higher than average and reports that 60% of those counties have higher rates (leaving unsaid that 40% have lower rates). There appears to be no mention of how the study related any of the cancer patients to agricultural employment or how it ruled out other carcinogens.

“The analysis by Food & Water Watch (FWW), a nonprofit public health advocacy group,”
No peer review, this could easily be a complete fraud. Who funds the advocacy group, trial lawyers maybe?

The fact you both conveniently dismiss is that it’s not just cancer itself, but the TYPE of cancer being disproportionately experienced: Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. NHL is the one linked most to the herbicides and pesticides in question. Below are two longer term, more clinical studies. There are plenty more.

There are a lot of old people there, but high rates of Hodgkin’s lymphoma shouldn’t be related to farming unless there’s a cause.

However, this study just counts all cancers, which is expected for an older population. 1/3 cancer, 1/3 strokes, 1/3 heart disease.
