The driver of a bus involved in a deadly Virginia crash that killed five people doesn’t speak English, authorities said, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy who called it “unacceptable.”
Five people were killed and dozens were injured when the driver of an E&P Travel bus heading from New York to North Carolina failed to slow down near a work zone and slammed into several cars on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, the Virginia State Police said.
The crash happened around 2:35 a.m. Friday.
A 13-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, who were in the car ahead of the one the bus hit, died along with a 45-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman after their car caught fire.
They were all from Massachusetts.
A 25-year-old woman, who was in the car immediately in front of the bus, was also killed.
At least 44 others were taken to hospitals, including three in critical condition, police said.
The driver of the bus, identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, was injured in the crash.
Police say charges are pending.
Dong is a naturalized citizen originally from China who received his commercial driver’s license in New York two years ago.
“Unacceptable. This is exactly why we are holding states’ accountable, enforcing the rules of the road, and cracking down on drivers who can’t speak English,” Duffy wrote on X.
“If you can’t be properly trained, read our road signs, or communicate with law enforcement, you have no business driving a bus.”

I would think US DOT could bar NY commercial licenses from interstate transport.
I saw this on youtube but did not click on it. I should have know it was something like this. Let me guess...a Singh?

The article says he is a naturalized citizen. How did he get it if he can’t speak english? He isn’t old enough for a age related waiver. The only other was to get it is if he has a medical disability.
what I do know is he killed an entire family,
Stories like this are not good for my blood pressure.
It's in the article.....
I wound up taking Ubers in Austin and some of the drivers spoke only Spanish. For the most part, it didn’t matter. They all had GPS maps with directions and they would NOT deviate from those maps. It was a dead giveaway when the map system printed the directions in Spanish and the narration was in Spanish.
In Illinois, ordinary drivers can take their written test in Spanish but need to speak enough English to pass the road test.
And SCOTUS just four days ago refused to hear Florida’s lawsuit against the Blue States for giving CDLs to illegals who can’t read English.
E&P travel needs to be held accountable. Fined out the wazoo, suspend business license until every employee is scrutinized for literacy
Was Coney Barrett the swing vote on that for the liberals?
Tragic. My guess is this is just a habitual tailgater caught short or just too many hours without rest. Signage can’t pump the brakes for you.
I usually complain about reposts - especially when it’s MSN reposting a story from a news site I like. This article claims to be a repost of a Fox News article, but I see exactly zero evidence of Fox News in the article and it is authored by a New York Post producer. So I think the claims with regard to Fox News content are mistaken.
This is a New York Post story.
I know, I know, hack to the subject....
‘Jing S. Dong, of Staten Island’...yeah, right.
so if I ever get on a bus tour I will make sure the driver speaks to me in an American accent for more than just “Hello”.
Dear God.
More blood Albany has on its hands.
We did NOT vote for this.
