Some of Texas’ most famous BBQ joints forced to close due to sky-high beef prices

Where’s the beef? Not in Texas — at least, not as much as it used to be. Texas barbecue joints are shutting their doors across the Lone Star State as sky-high beef prices turn brisket — once the centerpiece of a blue-collar meal — into a luxury item that many customers can no longer afford.

From Houston suburbs to rural smokehouses, pitmasters say soaring wholesale beef costs, inflation and shrinking customer traffic are crushing margins and forcing some of the state’s most celebrated BBQ institutions out of business.

SNIP

“When brisket costs $36 a pound for the consumer and then you got ribs and sausage and sides and desserts and all that … you can easily be spending $70 to $100 for barbecue,” Jones told his followers on YouTube.

Is this good news for James Talerico? He is running for governor of Texas on a "Make Texas Vegan Again" platform.

I just left the restaurant supply store and decided on pork steaks until further notice. Buy the whole boneless butt, slice it into 10 to 12 ounce steaks. $1.89/lb. (10 to 12 pound roast)

They could always switch to East Carolina style BBQ.

Seems like this is good for Bill Gates. He wants us OUT of the beef industry & consumption, I believe.

But Trump said just last week beef prices are coming down. I heard him saw it. Something must be wront. Oh yeah, this was right after he caved to the beef lobby and cancelled lifting of tariffs and relaxing import quotas.

Never mind.

Problem is hogs are fed absolute garbage to fatten them up and being mono-gastric rather than ruminants all that garbage winds up directly in the flesh you are eating

These days eating pork and chicken is not much better than just eating processed industrial garbage

The places in the article aren’t some of Texas’s most famous BBQ joints.

Swine feed is regulated just like everything else in this country.

But, that doesn’t mean that some swine farmers don’t cheat.

If you don’t raise it or grow it yourself, it’s a crapshoot!

I would totally go vegetarian, even vegan (I don’t do dairy) but love brisket too much! Especially the way Texans do it. 🙂

I learned to love East Carolina style when I lived in Carteret County.

Doesn’t have all that sauce drowning out the taste.

"forcing some of the state’s most celebrated BBQ institutions out of business."

If truly celebrated, then they would just increase prices.
