Top Democratic officials and lawmakers are breaking with Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner as his past blunders and online history stack up.
Platner’s ascendency to the top of the ticket in Vacationland broke with the Democratic establishment in Washington, D.C., and since Maine Gov. Janet Mills exited from the race, questions about whether he is the right choice to take on Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, have exploded.
Much of that is fueled by scandals that have cropped up seemingly week after week, be it a tattoo on his chest of a Nazi symbol or inflammatory posts online.
Some in the Democratic Party warn that it’s spurring a “civil war” between the moderate and left wings of the party.
Melissa DeRosa, former New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo’s chief of staff, told Fox News’ Bret Baier that Platner’s rise and ensuing questions of his fitness as a candidate are demonstrative of the bubbling conflict within the Democratic Party.
“The main race really demonstrates the civil war that’s happening within the Democratic Party, and there are a lot of Democrats, moderate Democrats like myself, who will not cry tears should we lose Maine,” DeRosa said.
“I mean, that would be a pickup to begin with.”
Senate Democrats view Maine as one of the most viable pickup opportunities in the 2026 midterm cycle in their quest to regain control of the upper chamber.
Platner is not the candidate that party bosses wanted, but since jumping into the race last year, he has built a growing national profile that reached new heights earlier this month when he landed on the cover of Time magazine.

Platner’s radical commentary is a design feature set up by the Ds to guarantee the re-election of Collins. Collins is the personification of the term ‘RINO’.

That would be Dennis Green when he coached the Arizona Cardinals against the Chiraq Bears. Roughly 2005-2006 timeframe. Bears pulled off an unlikely come from behind win as Arizona blew a sizeable lead.
IMHO, the only honest configuration is having Susan Collins on the ballets as both the Republican and Democratic Candidate to ensure the status quo prevails. In matters of importance, where there are votes to buy off with Deep State attention, Suzie can continue to be a key obstacle for a price, voting (R).
When the issues are vacuous, she can go along with either parties.

Most Mainers detest the Mills government and their radical running dogs for what they did during COVID.
Some Democrats may be pretending to cut ties with Platner so the media can portray them as “moderating”, but their views seem to match his pretty closely.

And they’ll still vote for him, and he’s still favored to win (for now).
But Collins was a serious underdog in 2020 too and she still won (against a radical nutjob though not necessarily Nazi Democrat), so there’s always the hope that lightning will strike twice.
Platner is the blue collar Michael Avenatti.
Which means their internal polling tells them Collins will cruise to victory.

I saw that photo. It is laughable, and will backfire. Skinny little guy with an oversized ‘Texas’ star short sleeve shirt, standing at a table, spindly arms holding a piece of BBQ to his mouth, holding it with a napkin no less. Think diminutive Dukakis driving a tank around the motor pool.
Think Schumer barbecuing a patty with cheese on it.
