After being involve with the production of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Masters of the Air, plus starring in Saving Private Ryan, I'm looking forward to this documentary from Tom Hanks which begins today at 8pm eastern on the History Channel.
All Day yesterday off and on I watched WW II in HD narrated by Gary Sinese on the History Channel.
Additionally, this morning at 11am on AMC their Band of Brothers marathon begins, I remember when this premiered-on HBO right before 9/11 and thought it was fantastic, episodes 2,5, and 7 are my personal favorites.
Episode 2 - Day of Days - parachuting into Normandy on D-day
Episode 5 - Crossroads - Winters leading a charge in Holland and ending with Easy Company taking up position around Bastogne at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge
Episode 7 - Breaking point - Guarnere and Toye getting injured and Spears taking over Easy Company.

Memorial Day IS actually for those killed in battle. Veterans Day is for those who served.

Thanks for the reminder! I have the boxed set of this series and haven’t watched it in probably 10 years.
In the summer months is when I catch up on movies. I get the garden squared away and watered before it gets too hot, then hit the couch and enjoy the indoor A/C in the afternoons.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat...until late-Summer harvesting and Canning Season kicks in. ;)

That’s a real keeper, Band of Brothers episode 7 The Breaking Point was one of my favorites, him and Joe Toye losing their legs, Lt. Dyke losing it and Spiers taking over Easy Company were high points.
I can’t watch Hanks after what has come out about him related to child trafficking. It’s too gut wrenching, all those singleton gloves and shoes...! Outing him was perhaps what got Isaac Kappy killed, going after such a Hollywood cash cow.
As far as I know, the History Channel stopped history stories about 20 years ago.
Back then we called it, “The Hitler Channel”
My presumptuous tone comes from a 27 year career in the Marines and both me and my younger brother were severely wounded in combat. What we came home to was a nightmare of know-it-alls, draft dodgers and enemy propagandists with all the waste that comes with it.
Our country failed us.
given that Hanks is the producer and it’s on the nuevo sans-History Channel, it’ll be interesting to see if he does a woke version of WWII ... if so, i won’t be watching the series ...
I think only the first 5 episodes of the 20 total episodes will be shown tonight, if they are woke I won’t watch the other episodes, if not, I’ll record and watch all 20.
Given that past production shows Hanks has been involved in, I expect a good product.
Bet you a dollar it will basically say that the Soviet Union alone defeated Hitler.
I would base on prior evidence Hanks would not do that, but the Russians did pay a heavy price to defeat the Nazis on the Eastern Front.

After they were the Nazis best friends, while the Nazis were invading Poland and France and bombing Britain.
And that “cannon fodder” wasn’t ethnic Russians as much as it was the soldiers from the Central Asian Republics.
The Russian Army lost several million soldiers on the Eastern Front, regardless of where they came from that is a heavy price to pay. I don’t think their loses should be minimized.
