Heart-stopping footage captured the moment a plane smashed through a paraglider’s canopy midair, sending a woman spiraling through the sky screaming before she miraculously landed safely on the ground. The paraglider, a 44-year-old woman named Sabrina, posted footage of her flying near the scenic Schmittenhöhe mountain in northern Austria Saturday afternoon when a small sightseeing plane suddenly plows right through her rig — just feet above her head.

We watched the paragliders in the alps while there in the summer. We were with some pilots. We all just shook our heads. Then went off for good food

I have done it at La Jolla north of San Diego. I would highly recommend it. No low-flying airplanes.
Very surprised the 172 didn’t crash! The paraglider has an emergency parachute the 172 does not. Undoubtedly both Pilots needed a change of underwear afterwards...lol
Maybe the Cessna pilot was IFR?
Whatever, he has some ‘sp;ainin to do with the Austrian version of the FAA.....
“The paraglider, a 44-year-old woman named Sabrina, posted footage of her flying near the scenic Schmittenhöhe mountain in northern Austria Saturday afternoon when a small sightseeing plane suddenly plows right through her rig — just feet above her head.” Must have been on her bucket list.
Aviation Ping!.............
“The sightseeing plane, piloted by a 28-year-old man, was able to land safely at Zell am See Airport, officials said.
He claimed that there was no way he could have avoided the paraglider.”
Being IFR doesn't excuse violating "See and Avoid" when you're VMC. Regardless, and he violated the paraglider's right-of-way (unpowered has right-of-way over all else).

The open skies were not big enough for the both of them?
The fighting for her life wasn’t the injuries, it was the scrambling to reorient and safely deploy her reserve, a task which if she had failed to do, she almost certainly would have died.
And another. An aircraft being overtaken has right-of-way over the overtaking aircraft. So that’s three screw-ups (minimum) for the Cessna pilot.
man she was quick with the secondary chute deployment!! Quite impressive! hopefully she stays with it! many would never go again after something that traumatic!!
[*cough*] horsesh*t [*cough*]
He was either chatting over his shoulder with his passengers, or texting.
A plane has a glide ratio.
A paraglider with no lift is a rock in midair.
more like a bag of Ketchup!! the splatter would be the same!
In keeping with the lost art of writing these days, that headline is absurdly written and illogical.
“He claimed that there was no way he could have avoided the paraglider.””
Uh, I’m gonna call BS on that one.
I was being facetious and satirical.....
The airborne equivalent of “wheels yield to heels”
