Mexican Coke tastes different than American Coke; after all, it’s sweetened using cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. That, at least, was the conventional wisdom until 2011, when a paper published in the journal Obesity found that Mexican Coke contained no cane sugar. Instead, the authors found plenty of glucose and fructose, which are the main ingredients in high-fructose corn syrup.

Yes, but what about the taste? Is it really noticeably different?
“ Yes, but what about the taste? Is it really noticeably different?”
At the establishments here there is Mexican coke and regular coke
Mexican coke is noticeably better. The kids will tell you
And it comes in glass bottles as well
Probably went back to the original pre-1929 ingredients.
Higher sodium content in the Mexican coke..............
I wish ALL beverages would go back to cane sugar but the government wheeling and dealing now make that impossible since it costs more to import cane sugar than it does to use HFCS.
“ Mexican Coke imported into the U.S. relies on simple, natural ingredients. Its primary distinguishing feature is the use of real cane sugar rather than the high-fructose corn syrup found in standard U.S. versions”
So you are unaware of the pre-1929 ingredients of "Coke?"
Does the word "coke" ring any bells?
The reason they named it "Coke?"
Cane sugar makes for a much sweeter product. Corn syrup leaves a sour slimey taste in soda pop. For some reason the carbonation is much cleaner, and crisper.
Now one thing about Fructose - Corn Syrup. Chemically it is almost identical to Sugar. Chemically.
Not identical to the human body, however.
Any cell in the human body can utilize Glucose. Fructose on the other hand is different, it can only be metabolized by the Liver. One of the commonly associated chronic conditions with the Obese, is an enlarged, impaired fatty liver. I can’t prove it, but it is likely an already malfunctioning overworked Liver is none too happy with getting loaded up with massive amounts of Corn Syrup.
Stay away from it regardless, it is a cheap filler that tastes terrible in addition to any potential liver problems.
“I wish ALL beverages would go back to cane sugar “
According to the pape4, after about three weeks most of the sucrose has converted to fructose and glucose.
Indeed you will; just take a gander at all the fat Mexican
mamacitas waddling around Los Angeles.
According to the paper, after about three weeks most of the sucrose has converted to fructose and glucose.
“Fructose on the other hand is different, it can only be metabolized by the Liver”
At moderate amounts, the small intestines metabolize most of the fructose into glucose.
I stopped drinking soft drinks 30 years ago.
I used to drink 2-3 Cokes per day.
I got curious, looked on the label and found they contained ~45 grams of sugar.
I broke out a digital scale, put a glass on it that was close to the size of a Coke can, then poured 45 grams of sugar into it.
There was about an inch of sugar in the bottom of the glass. In contrast, I put a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee.
That was the last day I drank a soft drink.
I don’t think any sane person thought Coke made in Mexico was not high in calories.
“I broke out a digital scale, put a glass on it that was close to the size of a Coke can, then poured 45 grams of sugar into it.”
45 grams is about 170 calories. Check the label.
One level teaspoon is about 16 calories.
Oh bi see. You were kidding
Coca. Cocaine. Yes
I was on the Mexican coke tastes different thing. Which it does
Actually they named it “Coca-Cola”
my nephew served me a small class of putative Mexican Coca-Cola a few days ago, and i couldn’t finish more than a couple of sips it was so nasty tasting ... i haven’t tasted USA Coca-Cola in many years, but this stuff wasn’t even close to what i remember Coca-Cola tasting like ...
Thank you, Captain Obvious.
You are so brilliant, surely you know why they named it that?
