‘I’m afraid he won’t make it’: How Thomas Massie is handling the toughest election of his career
CNN ^ | May 14, 2026 | Jeff Zeleny

Posted on 05/17/2026 7:56:56 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Joni Pugh feels like she’s stuck in the middle of a bitter family feud between her president and her congressman. As a loyal Republican, she likes them both – and that is where her predicament begins...

“I’m not putting Trump down at all because I’m very much a fan of his, but I’m still going to vote for Thomas. He’s a great guy and is very careful about how he wants our taxpayer money to be spent.”

Massie has fought the establishment of both parties since first winning his seat 14 years ago in the tea party era as a fierce deficit hawk...
Massie also helped lead the charge to direct the Justice Department to release its investigative files into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein...
He’s also been among the loudest Republican critics of the Iran war, which he said has made him a target for strong supporters of Israel...

In one of his closing ads, Massie reminds voters that he has often stood with Trump...

“I agree with President Trump a whole lot more than I disagree with him. The list is long: the SAVE America Act to require proof of citizenship to vote, stopping immigrant welfare, fighting the woke agenda, defending the Second Amendment, protecting the life of the unborn, securing the border.”...

Massie faces Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL whom Trump and his allies recruited into the race... Gallrein said as he announced his candidacy..."The president doesn’t need obstacles in Congress — he needs backup.” ...

“You can’t escape it. It’s everywhere,” Pugh said of the advertising deluge. “...I’m afraid he won’t make it this time. I don’t think he’s ever gone through anything like this.”

The difference is today, you have the rest of the Arab world, ready to co-exist with Israel, especially the UAE. It’s the Iranians who are trying to wreck that.

Once Iran is solved, then the UAE and other rich Arab states can handle the Middle East, and we can retreat from there.

How does ‘more Israel’ fit in that list?

It's the standard Philistinian agenda which is parroted daily; bots, philistinians and other moslems.

I’m wondering if you were born after 1979 ...

Just assume most of them are bots, leftists, philistinians, or other moslem sympathizers.

I have heard nothing that definitively assigned Epstein’s activities to Israel. Sounds like he was to the highest bidder. I also believe he was a contributor to many of the Middle East kingdom’s desire for human trafficking needs (include some European leaders as well).
Trump has alway demonstrated more care for Israel than any Republican - the Republicans will abandon Israel when Trump is out; unless successors to the White House continue to push it. The current trend of the electorate indicates more anti-Israel sentiment on both sides of the party divide.

Yes, not a single Republican Senator voted for Obamacare and only one House member did so.

John McCain, who hated Donald Trump as much as any Trump Deranged democrat today, did indeed vote to save Bammy-Care to spite Trump.

I shouldn’t be, but I am, amazed how Congress regularly succumbs to personal feuds against the greater interests of our nation.

If I had my way, I would pay Congressmen, something like $2 million a year to serve.

But the catch is, you can only serve for one term.

So you can attract decent people, who could earn more by staying in the private sector, but they don’t turn into career politicians.

That would be aa very stupid decision. No ally is perfect but Israel is better than any other I can think of.

McCain was my senator and I hated him long before his vote to save the fiasco known as Obamacare.

“Iran has basically kicked us out of the Gulf.”

Congress could authorize Trump to use $1 billion to buy tankers stranded in the Gulf, fill them with crude, and have US Navy sailors run them through the Strait (or send them through by remote control or autopilot). A helicopter could be on each tanker in transit in case the crew needs to come off.

Congress could authorize Trump to have another 60 days if:
1. any US vessel is attacked while passing through the the international waters of the Persian Gulf or the waters of Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, the UAE or Oman,
2. an Iranian vessel, missile or torpedo enters the waters or airspace claimed by Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, the UAE or Oman within four miles of a US vessel,
3. an Iranian vessel fails to promptly and harmlessly sail to Iranian coastal waters when signaled by US military flare.

The US tankers are unlikely to be attacked. Does anybody here think Iranian thugs want Trump to have another 60 days to whack them?

There is a way to drop oil and gas prices fast.

“If the candidate the President supports wins, it will indicate that Trump has suppressed the alt-right wing as he has the moderate wing.”
****************************
So what is the alt right those who don’t suck up to Israel and want a moratorium on immigration? Well if that’s who they mean then they are talking about the majority of conservatives under 50. Good luck suppressing all of them. According to a recent poll the only demographic that still gives Trump a positive approval rating is over 65 MAGA’s who watch Fox news.

We have no good options and need to leave immediately. It was recently leaked from the CIA that out of 33 Iranian missile batteries defending their coast we were only able to destroy 3 of them leaving the others intact. It would be insane to send any of our ships up there. Only Israel firsters are pushing for this war. They apparently don’t care what the cost will be to the US.

Agree. However, it does appear to be a propaganda effort is being successful when you see young people (if you believe polls) favoring anti-Israel standards

I do believe President Trump really doesn’t care about political expediency. Looks like his focus on removing opposition are those that do. Needless to say; every Democrat operates in expediency; I fear a majority of Republicans do also.

I spent 25 years in the military and did multiple trips to the Middle East. During my entire career, Iran was an enemy and they’ve wanted nukes. But I’m supposed to trust them because you’re an isolationist?

I trust MY analysis over yours.

I am not an isolationist I am just against all these useless expensive never ending wars. The majority of Americans don’t support the current war either but that doesn’t seem to matter to Trump. At this point it looks like we might be headed towards WW3. So much for being the peace president.

“Because AIPAC/Ellison/Miriam Adelson flooded his opponent with money. And Massie lead the charge to expose Trump’s coverup of the Epstein/Israeli spy ring. Massie worked to oppose Trump’s build up to war with Iran last summer.

That’s is why Trump targeted him. That’s why if they take him down, repubs will go more Israel.”

It’s also why Blanche will remain Trump’s personal lawyer instead of a real Attorney General, and will do his best to make sure the Epstein files never are released as the law now requires.

“The uoltimate aim is not to keep MAGA in the know along with every enemy and negotiation partner. The ultimate goal is to strengthen and protect America and to benefit the American people and the Nation. You need to step back and to trust before seeing the whole picture or MAGA fails. Do you have someone in the wings who would do a better job?
Don’t try and oppose the one champion we have. IMO we are at war and in war we support our team not the enemy. Like in the armed services have an opinion in private but follow the command or resign.”
___________________________________________________________

The founders of our nation didn’t see it that way at all. They saw freedom and justice as the basic components of citizenship, not voting in a block as though we have a parliamentary government.

The House of Representatives served the people, not the president, regardless of party.

Your approach is that of a servile peasant.

So now you want Trump to get congressional approval? That’s pretty funny.
