The King and Queen of Pop resume their royal residences together on the Billboard Hot 100, as Michael Jackson charts four classics sparked by the new hit biopic Michael, and Madonna returns with her new collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, “Bring Your Love.”
When did MJ and Madge last share spots on the Hot 100? More than 22 years ago.
On the Jan. 3, 2004, chart, Madonna ranked at No. 83 with another high-profile team-up: “Me Against the Music,” with Britney Spears (the Princess of Pop). Jackson that week held the anchor spot, No. 100, with “One More Chance.”
They first doubled up on the Oct. 29, 1983, tally — when Madonna made her first appearance, as “Holiday” entered at No. 88. Jackson had two hits that week: “Say Say Say,” with Paul McCartney, at No. 11, and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” at No. 23…
For two months in 1985, Madonna and USA for Africa were both in the Hot 100’s top 10. For three of those frames, Madonna had two songs in the tier, joined by “We Are the World,” which Jackson cowrote and on which he famously took the spotlight vocally. For four of those weeks, Madonna’s “Crazy for You” and “We Are the World” claimed the top two, with the former bumping the latter from No. 1…
Plus, for two weeks in October 1987, the top of the Hot 100 was as regal as could be, as Jackson’s “Bad” was No. 1 and Madonna’s “Causing a Commotion” peaked at No. 2…
By the end of the decade, Jackson won with nine No. 1s, while Madonna, Phil Collins and Whitney Houston shared second place with seven each.

didn’t it just come out the other day that there are photos of him blasting young boys. Raping boys? I’m surprised people still play his music.
Imagine Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie dominating 1987 with their bebop jazz. It would not have happened. Music had moved on since 1947, and 40-year-old music wasn’t going to make the big charts in 1987.
2026? Music hasn’t changed significantly in decades, except that the quality of today’s music is worse than it used to be. Madonna and Michael Jackson? Music that’s 40-years-old? Bring it on!! People are hungry for the good stuff.
New music sucks. It is all auto-tuner or vile language.
I would pay money to NOT hear Michael Jackson.
Just “Beat It!”
“Put it in the microwave and heat it!”
The supermarket mags were still putting Jackie O and Lady Di on their covers until recently.
A damning of what passes for modern music.
Happy to know I never listened to the crap they recorded.
A pervert and a slut.
My 35 year old daughter told me that there was more music from MY teens on her most played songs list than there are from the current songs.
The equivalent would be me listening to songs from the 1920s when I was in high school. I was NOT listening to songs from the 1920s when I was in highschool
Finally a list an old curmudgeon like me can relate to.
Not one of those a gen-z copy of someone elses’s work?

Quite the list.
The only thing hot about that worn out old mattress Madonna is when she rubs Icy Hot on her arthritic joints.
On the other hand there was Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Brian Seltzer. And totally gay David Lee Roth with "I'm Just a Gigilo".
