Stephen Colbert Welcomes Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and John Oliver Ahead of Final Late Show Episode

On Monday, May 11, Colbert welcomed guests Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and John Oliver for a joint interview as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert approaches its final episodes.

The crew, which previously made up the Strike Force Five for a limited podcast amid the 2023 WGA strike, helped celebrate Colbert's final weeks at the Ed Sullivan Theater before its final air date on May 21. The group said they could record an "emergency" episode of Strike Force Five to support Colbert after the show. The episode will be released on Wednesday, May 13.

Colbert later asked the group of hosts to make a case for late night television shows to continue to exist, which resulted in introspective responses on the importance of their shows. Kimmel suggested that the combined numbers of everyone who watches their shows on TV and online would surpass the audience Johnny Carson had.

"Why should you have to defend late night? I mean, why should that question even be asked?" Kimmel said. "You don't hear like Ryan Seacrest get asked that question about the Wheel of Fortune."

"I would actually like to hear Ryan Seacrest defend Wheel of Fortune," Oliver quipped.

This is careless. They should select a designated survivor. If a tragic event were to take place it might wipe out the entire Democrat brain trust.

Kimmel suggested that the combined numbers of everyone who watches their shows on TV and online would surpass the audience Johnny Carson had.

And he would be wrong.

Carson averaged 10-15 million viewers, while those guys combined would never reach ten. And that's with almost a hundred million more people in America since Carson retired. (To be fair, most of them don't speak English, so they are watching Univision.)

Colbert came to Iraq in late ‘08 or ‘09 to do a show at the Al Faw palace in Baghdad. Gen Ray Odierno famously shaved his head.

The head-shaving event, on stage, was preceded by gobs of his ‘humor’. Attacking the government and telling all the Soldiers there to revolt.

I will pee in a bottle. Half will go to Jane Fonda, and the other half will go to Colbert.

Last year, when Stephen Colbert found out he was being cancelled, Fox News wrote a story that the Colbert Show had a full time staff of almost 100 employees.

Greg Gutfeld - who beat Stephen Colbert in viewers every night - produced his Fox show with 8 full time employees!

A chance for me to recall this remark by John F. Kennedy....

“I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”

Extract from John F. Kennedy’s Remarks at a Dinner Honoring Nobel Prize Winners of the Western Hemisphere
April 29, 1962.
