Then, during a routine trip to her dentist, everything changed. Amber’s dentist realised she was suffering from a poorly aligned jaw that was putting strain on the muscles and joints around her face.
Using specialist mapping technology, her teeth and bite were precisely analysed before she went through a near three-hour procedure involving tiny adjustments to the surfaces of her teeth to reduce the pressure. The results, she says, were almost immediate.
‘Straight after the first treatment, the whooshing sound – like a washing machine – had gone,’ says Amber. ‘There’s still a faint sound now, but it’s more like a heartbeat and it doesn’t really bother me.’

If I heard a non stop ringing, I would gladly have all my teeth removed to stop it

I’m guessing there’s various types of tinnitus, probably some louder than others. I also know some people have no self control, in other words they cannot tune it out, which would drive them crazy.
I’ve had it for years and tune it out. Simply reading this article brings the tinnitus sound out front and full volume. I’m guessing it’s a gift that I can tune it out.
Yes, I too Heard Amber was driven crazy by the sounds ringing in her head.
I saw that.
I heard slot machine bells two weeks after an hour or so of playing them. I still have a nervous twitch when I hear bells.
“I’ve had it for years and tune it out. Simply reading this article brings the tinnitus sound out front and full volume. “
Me, too. I generally don’t know it’s there until I read these helpful articles!
You get used to it.
Holy crap! me too...I’m like well there it is. That’s funny I normally don’t hear it any longer but when I think about it...it’s still there.
It’s been so loud, so constant, 24/7, that some have taken their own lives because of it.
Don't worry Amber... That feint sound will get louder and it never goes away. There is only one way to control tinnitus... Stop paying attention to it.
I live right beside a traffic light... There is a constant beep, beep, beep to inform blind people which way the walk light is working. People come to my place and say 'how can you stand that noise'... My response... What noise?
If you stop obsessing and concentrating on that one noise you hear all day long... It just subsides into normality.
Likewise, it's a blessing. My tinnitus is from 60 years of playing loud guitar in rock bands, and it's really freakin' loud, high-pitched like a million circular saws cutting sheet metal. It drowns out conversation, I can't listen to soft music because it's all distorted, etc. Relentless 24x7.
So like you, over the years I learned how to tune it out, which works best when I'm reading, concentrating on work at the computer, or sitting still meditating. Like you, reading articles about tinnitus makes me aware of it again. But Thank God I can push it into the back of my awareness with a little effort.
I have worn high-end DSP hearing aids for a decade and a half, and they're a lifesaver in social and work contexts, and when conversing with my wife, whose normal soft voice is otherwise buried in the tinnitus.
Cool, and stay away from heavy artillery.
My teeth were removed, but it didn’t help my tinnitus. However, repositioning my jaw manually, does. I had a jaw injury several years ago which dislocated it. This article was helpful to me. Thankyou.
