Kyle Rittenhouse hospitalized following bite from venomous spider

Kyle Rittenhouse, who gained fame for opening fire at a 2020 civil rights rally in Wisconsin, was hospitalized after a venomous spider bit him, the noted firearms enthusiast said Wednesday.

Rittenhouse, 23, told his 100,000 followers on X that he fell victim to a brown recluse, posting pictures of himself in a hospital bed strapped to monitors with one close-up shot of the bite mark.

“The spider, like the commies, also thought it was a good idea to come after me while I was armed,” Rittenhouse posted. “He did not survive.”

Rittenhouse appeared to be in good spirits, joking that his only disappointment was that “I’m not Spider-Man now.”

Yep, I have a dent in my waistline that you can stick a golf ball in after a bite from that dang spider. What an awful experience. They generally don’t kill you, but they sure do make you sick and eat up your body.

Found one of these little critters in a patient room in the hospital I was working in. I got hold a specimen cup and scooped the bugger into it and quietly told one of the nurses what I found. I told her what it was and what might happen if it bit someone and she said thanks and said she's tell her supervisor. Never heard anymore about it or ever saw any spiders again.

I got bitten by one right on my left elbow; it had crawled up my sleeve without my knowing. I didn't even feel it at the time, but over the next couple hours my lower arm swelled up to the point it looked like Popeye's arm. The PA debrided the area around the bite and then massaged my forearm until the puss began to literally squirt out of my elbow and filled the better part of a small kidney dish.

They put me on a couple meds, one of which was an antibiotic, an anti-inflammatory and some others I'm not sure of. The cellulitis lingered for a couple weeks, and I would drain the puss out of my elbow once or twice a day, though never as dramatic as that first time at the docs. After I realized I was going to be able to keep my arm it was kind of neat because my forearm was like play-dough. I'd let people grab and squeeze it and then when they let go, it would still have the impression of their fingers in my arm that would last half an hour or so.

That affected area doesn’t look a bit like the necrotic suppurating wound on my calf when I was bitten 46 years ago. It happened when I was in the Army, no hospital or days off duty. The clinic PA cleaned it daily with hydrogen peroxide while taking away the dead skin. Local antibiotic cream plus a shot.
