A newly identified species of ancient snake, Vasuki indicus, may rank among the largest snakes to ever exist. The massive reptile lived around 47 million years ago in what is now Gujarat, India, according to research published in Scientific Reports. Scientists estimate it reached an extraordinary length of about 11 to 15 meters (36 to 49 feet). While it belonged to the extinct madtsoiidae family, researchers say it represents a unique lineage that originated on the Indian subcontinent.

A colossal prehistoric snake, Vasuki indicus, may have rivaled the largest snakes in history, stretching up to 50 feet long. Fossils from India suggest it was a slow-moving ambush predator and part of a widespread ancient snake lineage.

Close to the same size. The titanboa was supposed to be mostly aquatic, and a bit heavier, maybe slightly shorter.

Huge snakes.

It was the bones of a snake which died many moons ago.....another misleading clickbait title.

If it was as described : a slow moving ambush predator, that meant the snake would hunt by lying in wait, then strike it’s prey. But where was it hiding itself during that wait?
I’m thinking the snake may have wrapped itself around a hill or mountain base, or perhaps in a body of water. It’s hard to be ‘discreet’ when you’re a 50 foot snake. No trees would hold them, at least not for very long.

The biggest vertebrae found was about 4-5 inches in width. That pic makes it look like some beast a lot bigger.
Supposedly it hunted “ambush” style... At that length it must make lots of rustling sounds. Must be underwater, or hanging from a tree.
Boas are 2-5 inches wide at their widest point, Average Anacondas are 12 inches wide, females are larger than males and have been reported as up to 1-1.5 METERS wide, at their widest, and up to 25-30 feet long!!!
