A gold brooch attributed to the Late Germanic Iron Age has been uncovered in Denmark by metal detectorist Mikkel Warming. The object is provisionally dated to the mid-6th century AD based on typological characteristics, although further specialist assessment is required.
The find was identified following a non-distinct metal-detecting signal consistent with low-value metallic debris. Subsequent excavation revealed a gold object at shallow depth within compact soil. No immediate surface indicators distinguished the signal from common modern refuse...
The brooch measures approximately 40 mm in length. Its surface is densely decorated with repeated circular motifs arranged in a highly regular pattern. The ornamentation appears to have been executed using fine filigree or granulation techniques, indicating advanced metalworking skill. The uniformity of the decorative elements suggests controlled production methods and access to specialised craftsmanship.

Would have been nice to place a ruler next to it for size estimation.............
About two inches............
That brooch becomes even more exceptional in its craftmanship because it is on such a small surface!
From the 6th Century?
Wow. But how did they get it so clean without it falling apart or those threads coming loose?
Maybe they are woven in as tightly as with Needlepoint.
Maybe it was soaked in blue DAWN dishwashing liquid.
All oil covered Baby Ducks swear by it as a good cleanser!
Next time.
Wire.
Wow. Imagine doing all that fine work without any optical aids like a Jeweler’s Loupe. All with the naked eye.
Awesome is all I can say.
The more I look at it, the awesomer it gets.
Some researchers presume those fine pieces of weaving and embedded wire were not done by the Danish of the 6tf Century, but more likely by those in either Constantinople
or Persia.
They had easier access to Visby Lenses; high quality, rock crystal lenses, capable of 3x magnification and fire starting as well.
they are absolutly correct.
There was nothing of precision made by the white monsters of the north
“Visby Lenses; high quality, rock crystal lenses, capable of 3x magnification”
Never heard of that before! Thanks.
