Flashback: Widow of fire chief Corey Comperatore, slams Secret Service a year later: ‘Garbage’
NY Post ^ | July 2025 | Steven Vago, Chris Nesi

Posted on 04/28/2026 10:01:32 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, who was shot and killed at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, by a bullet intended for President Trump last July, has no love lost for the Secret Service.

“I think the Secret Service is garbage,” she told The Post. “All I’ve wanted this entire time was to sit down with the men who screwed up that day and find out why. Why? Why at that rally? Why at that one in Butler?” she asked incredulously.

“...Why were you such a mess in Butler? Were you told to be a mess?"...

The agency’s response to the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt drew widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle, ultimately resulting in then-director Kimberly Cheatle stepping down from her post in disgrace.

On Thursday, nearly a year to the day after the botched security operation, six agents working the rally were suspended from duty.

Asked about what she’d say to Crooks’ parents, Matthew and Mary, who have yet to issue a formal statement nearly a year after...

“I want to know why if they knew he had mental issues and he was spiraling like they say, why didn’t they go get him help? If my kid lived in my house and he barely spoke to me and they knew that he had issues and he was going downward, why did they let him leave with a gun that day?”

Helen said she received a warm letter from President Trump last month.

“He did send me a letter in June just checking in. He sent me some photos from the day and it was just a beautiful letter saying our families will always be connected and that if I ever need anything to please reach out.”

Oswald was dead, too.

Wasn’t it the agent who got shot (but mostly protected by his “bulletproof” vest) who did most if not all the firing back?

I can sort of excuse the lack of accuracy in that case.

Dan Bongino explained very well the problems with the “middle perimeter” in an environment such as at the hotel. ‘Fixing it” would take, primarily, a lot more people (agents).

I would add that the more people that are involved, the greater the chance of a “mole”.

That’s my mistake, a habit of using description of FBI and Secret Service interchangeably. You’re right, they are separate functions.

They were intentionally incompetent.

Who needs secret service agents that can’t do their jobs?

I recall that it was explained at the time...they ran out of room on his coat, so they left out the “a”. I think that was the explanation

When will we see a new Attorney General of the US? Todd Blanched is a Democrat and can’t be trusted.

Don’t forget the same day the FBI wre hosing down the roof where Crooks (or whomever it was) was shot, removing the blood and DNA from the crime scene before an investigation was done.

I recall reading that his turnout coat was misspelled on purpose to shorten his long last name.

Crooks went into the memory hole

So did Maxwell Yearick and his explosives containing white van from AZ.

The memory of Corey is relevant in light of what happened over the weekend. So too the two wounded: David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, PA. James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, PA.

Security negligence has catastrophic consequences even if the President came out alive. All lives matter. You can’t prevent every horror, but some of these ‘close calls’ ARE preventable and without excuse.

IMO, in PA there was both negligence and lack of resources on scene involved. At this dinner, it appears to me to be mostly lack of resources. However, I can argue negligence @ the dinner by making the case the SS should have told the President (and in particular Susie Wiles?) “We don’t have the resources (enough agents available) to cover this sort of environment properly AND cover all our other obligations. Find another venue that is easier to protect.”

If that doesn’t work, go public. If the SS is being stretched too thin, its leadership needs to make a big stink about it. Ultimately, and especially since it takes time to train new personnel, maybe a lot of 3rd tier types getting protection need to be told: “The President comes first.” and THEY can make a big stink, come up with their own protection (most have the money), etc.

“While the security perimeter outside of the ballroom worked”

No, it did not work. The perp got close enough to blow up two floors including the ballroom if he had been a suicide bomber wearing a vest. As some security guy said, we're lucky all these would-be assassins have been crazed amateurs.

I think she got that job because Jill Biden wanted it. Utterly unfit and undeserving for the position.
