Flashback: Widow of fire chief Corey Comperatore, slams Secret Service a year later: ‘Garbage’
NY Post ^ | July 2025 | Steven Vago, Chris Nesi

Posted on 04/28/2026 10:01:32 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore, who was shot and killed at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, by a bullet intended for President Trump last July, has no love lost for the Secret Service.

“I think the Secret Service is garbage,” she told The Post. “All I’ve wanted this entire time was to sit down with the men who screwed up that day and find out why. Why? Why at that rally? Why at that one in Butler?” she asked incredulously.

“...Why were you such a mess in Butler? Were you told to be a mess?"...

The agency’s response to the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt drew widespread condemnation from both sides of the aisle, ultimately resulting in then-director Kimberly Cheatle stepping down from her post in disgrace.

On Thursday, nearly a year to the day after the botched security operation, six agents working the rally were suspended from duty.

Asked about what she’d say to Crooks’ parents, Matthew and Mary, who have yet to issue a formal statement nearly a year after...

“I want to know why if they knew he had mental issues and he was spiraling like they say, why didn’t they go get him help? If my kid lived in my house and he barely spoke to me and they knew that he had issues and he was going downward, why did they let him leave with a gun that day?”

Helen said she received a warm letter from President Trump last month.

“He did send me a letter in June just checking in. He sent me some photos from the day and it was just a beautiful letter saying our families will always be connected and that if I ever need anything to please reach out.”

My sympathies to this widow. For many reasons, it’s highly doubtful that she will ever have that sit down, face to face meeting with FBI Agents. For one thing, many of those specific agents are no longer working for the agency,

Another, they may not want to take the risk that this still grieving widow will react to something said at any such meeting and decide to launch a civil suit.
The FBI is protected to some degree by Sovereign Immunity, but sometimes, that immunity is waived.

Crooks sure disappeared instantly. The commission investigating the Kennedy Assassination spent years trying to understand what happened, then a whitewash public report was released.

Crooks went into the memory hole, no commission set up and nothing but...crickets.

Why?

There were two other men shot, who thank God are okay but are all too easily forgotten:

David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, PA.
James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, PA.

It’s not just Secret Service’s job to act once the bullets are flying. Yet that’s considered a ‘security success’ according to deputy AG Todd Blanche. 🙄

I don’t know. I guess because he’s dead, so no trial…

Corey Comperatore shielded his wife with his body which made him the target of rounds fired that killed him. She ried to say “Okay, we can get up now but he was already dead.”

On stage above them the woman from the Secret Service was supposed to shield Trum but she was too short so he was an easy target above her head——but luckily the sniper had shot and killed the perp so Trump was okay. But they needed agents bigger and taller than the protected person.

Notice at the journalist dinner that tall agent stood right in front of Trump. Any accomplice or the main shooter still on the loose and the agent would have been shot down. Courageous.

The other two men have been too quickly forgotten, by me and by most people. They also suffered, and will keep the trauma of that day in their minds forever.

I agree that is courageous…But what the public is concerned about is the coordination of logistics surrounding these events. The preparation days if not weeks or months in advance. As I’m sure state dinners and things like King Charles’ visit require…

Either Europe is going to roast, or freeze, or stay the same, but it can’t do all of them at once.

When and where did Todd Blanche say that the Butler, PA incident was a "security success?" It certainly wasn't in this 10 month old article you posted.

Dammit, my browser used a previous copy to paste and I didn't catch it.

That was my intended quote>

He called the WHCD ordeal on Saturday a “security success”

The shooter (allegedly*) shot an agent. Who thankfully was wearing a bulletproof vest. And it was obviously God’s will and by His grace that the shooter (Cole Allen) survived — because whoever was shooting back at Cole kept missing.

It’s not a ‘success’ that bullets were flying and an agent gets shot. And that by sheer luck, no bystanders were hit in the crossfire.

Taylor Swift has better security.

While the security perimeter outside of the ballroom worked, and the Secret Service and Federal Law Enforcement acted swiftly to secure the ballroom and move the President and high level officials out of harms way, the fact is there numerous glaring security issues:

1) no photo ID and no verified list of attendees, which is common for any White House event.

2) there were no magnetometers before the ballroom. Prior to the event, there were numerous receptions that someone could have easily gotten into — with limited security.

3) the building was still open to the general public.

4) without getting into details, I will just say, there was not a good handle on how many members of Congress were at the event and where they were in the room.

5) there needs to be a complete and thorough after action as to how the gunman got from his hotel room into a secure area with numerous guns.

His last name in the headline and in the article text is spelled differently than it is on the fireman’s coat. Strange. I have always believed it to be spelled like it is in the article. Maybe the person who created the name patch was a Learing Center dropout or something. Who knows?

” it’s highly doubtful that she will ever have that sit down, face to face meeting with FBI Agents.”

Why are you griping about the FBI? Her beef is with the Secret Service. She does not mention the FBI at all.

Crooks: instantly cremated before any investigation had opened. Never interviewed the parents. Here one minute, disappeared then next.

They never explained how earlier in the summer, Crooks's cell phone was picked up pinging outside of the FBI building in Washington, DC.

They weren’t incompetent. They were intentional.

What do you call those big machines that Cole Allen ran past?

Bongino and Patel are covering up what happened. Lone operator, my butt.

Because the FBI are covering something up. They destroyed the crime scene right away. Wild Eyed Bongino is telling us that he acted alone.
