Paging Indiana Jones!
An American archeologist thinks he may know where the lost Ark of the Covenant is hidden, and is hoping to mount a search to find it.
Dr. Jones — err, Professor Chris McKinny — believes the Lost Ark may be waiting beneath the City of David, an archeological site just south of the Dome of the Rock which is considered to be one of the oldest sections of Jerusalem, the Daily Mail reported.
McKinny — an associate professor of biblical archeology at Lipscomb University in Tennessee — drew on biblical and historical texts to zero in on his hypothesis, and is hoping to deploy a high-tech device known as a muon detector to scan deep beneath the ground from the City of David to the Dome of the Rock to test his theory.
Muon detectors track subatomic particles that come from cosmic rays striking the atmosphere. The particles penetrate deep within the Earth, and allow people to map structures otherwise hidden beneath the ground.
Scans of the City of David have already revealed unexplored openings beneath the area, and the Ark — said to be plated in gold — would likely appear clearly on muon scans because of its gilded composition, according to McKinny.
The Ark has been missing since about 587 BCE when Jerusalem was sacked by the Babylonians, and the Ark’s keepers hid it to prevent it from being destroyed or falling into enemy hands.
Legend says the golden chest carried the tablets of the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God, and was used by the Israelites as both a tool of protection and a powerful weapon that could topple city walls or afflict enemies with deadly plagues.

off topic but I just found out today that the city of Newark used to be called New ARK like Ark of the covenant?!
If the subject is Noah’s Ark, I thought that had already been found near Turkey.
Every single time!
If the Ark of the Covenant is anywhere it is in a cave on Mt. Nebo where it was placed by the prophet Jeremiah at the time of the Babylonian Exile.
Don’t look, Marion!
How many times have they found it so far?
Of course those and other scenarios are possible, but I don't know of any documentary or other evidence for them. According the account given in 2 Maccabees (which states that the account there was taken from other records, probably now lost to us), Jeremiah, when he hid the Ark and the other Temple implements in the cave on Mt. Nebo, set very specific conditions for when they would be found again.
Many have claimed to have found it, but no one has ever produced physical evidence. The Ethiopian Church has long claimed it was taken to Ethiopia at the time of the Exile and keep it in a locked shrine (where, suspiciously) no outsiders are allowed to enter.
It is in Warehouse 13 ...
Adam Schiff has it in a secure vault with his evidence of Russian collusion, and alleged nudes of President Trump.
MUON! Who loves ya, baby!"
Any minute now.
The gold covering on the Ark is almost certainly gold leaf (assuming it wasn’t destroyed) so there will be little if any effect discernible by muon scattering. The professor is looking for hype or doesn’t understand the technology.
U think it is in Ethiopia
It’s under Oak Island. Some morbidly obese guy is going to dig it up with a backhoe.
Seems like we read a story similar to this every 6-7 years.
6 Some of those who followed him came up to mark the way, but could not find it. 7 When Jeremiah learned of it, he rebuked them and declared: "The place shall be unknown until God gathers his people together again and shows his mercy.
TL DR: People have to know the way.
One interesting thing about the Hebrew title of the movie [Raiders of the Lost Ark] is that the word for the Ark is "teiva" [תיבה] -- as in Noah's Ark, or Moses' baby basket -- not "aron" [ארון] as in the Ark of the Covenant or Joseph's coffin:
שודדי התיבה האבודה
The Raiders' Wikipedia page uses both words throughout, with another word used for the Ark's storage crate (ארגז עץ wooden crate).
So, back to the "teiva" being the lost Ark as per the title...
A "teiva" is also a word meaning the [written] word, or a measure of music, or a box.
It's commonly used in the phrase "roshei teivot" [ראשי תיבות], which is an acronym/abbreviation/initialism, itself abbreviated as ר"ת. Literally, the heads of [written or printed] words.
(Perhaps the idea is that an acronym represents and contains the full measure/contents of a word or phrase.)
Thus, the movie title alternately could be read as Raiders of the Lost Word or Raiders of the Lost Box or Raiders of the Lost Bar [of music].
Well, like with a lot of things, ain't nobody got time fo' dat.
Ironic, because
A bar (or measure) is a fundamental unit of musical time, acting as a container for a specific number of beats defined by the time signature.
In non-Christian circles, historical times are marked by BCE and CE, versus BC and AD respectively. The turning point is the same, however.
"Before the Common Era" or "Common Era" allude to the measure of time known as common time -- the 4/4 or C standard time signature.
It's like windows, but who ever counts the panes?
"4 over 4":

The Lost Ark/Box/Measure/Word:
התיבה האבודה
= 445, a sum of word(s) which first appears in the Torah in Genesis 1:3...
ohr veyehi ohr:
*ויאמר אלהים יהי *אור ויהי אור
And God said, Let there be *light: and there was light*.
I simply follow the trailheads. Great views always. Not one in that image, but eight.
Some of those who followed him came up to mark the way, but could not find it.
No sense of humor, much less any interest in true adventure and its spirit of discovery. It's not any work at all if it is love.
Another term for an abbreviation is kitzur [קיצור], as in "for short". And a short cut is a short way, a kitzur derech [קיצור דרך].
More irony is that at the end of the movie, the Ark's crate is locked up and then marked "Top Secret", yet the "roshei teivot" on the box itself (US) "hides" the key:
Because there is only one way to perform this (which means there is only one possibility), the Atbash cipher provides no communications security, as it lacks any sort of key.
This is a Hebrew artifact, so the letters US are...
U: יו
S: אס
Atbash of = יואס --->
which is a key that provides no communications security.
A key is found in the *last* place it was left.
Such as over in Genesis 41:45, at a *skip of 4* on the last letters of Joseph's cipher code name, "shem Yosef Tzafnat Pa'aneach" [שֵׁם־יוֹסֵף צָפְנַת פַּעְנֵחַ], along with the ankh [ענח] in "Pa'aneach".
But hey, it's just a silly movie. Who ever thinks of looking in fiction for INTEL.
Amazing, the stuff that just sits there.
At least the average Joe on the street can say right off where the Ark is located. Experts, not so much.
Who truly wants to solve mysteries because where's the profit in that?
The beat goes on.
