Palmer Luckey developed Occulus:

The Oculus brand, now part of Meta's Reality Labs, offers a diverse lineup of virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) headsets, including the standalone Oculus Quest series and the PC-tethered Oculus Rift. The Oculus Quest line, launched in 2019, introduced all-in-one VR by eliminating the need for a PC, featuring inside-out 6DOF tracking, Oculus Touch controllers, and an Android-based operating system that runs games wirelessly.

Palmer Luckey was 16 years old when he built his first prototype headset (the PR1) and 19 years old when he officially founded Oculus VR in 2012.

He began experimenting with virtual reality designs at age 16, purchasing old hardware and reading patents to understand existing technology.

His first prototype, the PR1, was completed at age 17 in his parents' garage in 2010.

Luckey launched the company Oculus VR at age 19, which was subsequently acquired by Facebook (now Meta) for $2 billion two years later.

He then worked for Facebook, until he was fired in 2016 for contributing 10K to a pro-Trump group during the 2016 election cycle.

While being a billionaire, Palmer Luckey could have just sat back & enjoyed his wealth, but instead he decided that wasn't who he was so he created a new company called:

Anduril Industries after being fired from Meta in 2016. He co-founded this defense technology company in April 2017, a year after his departure from Meta, with a mission to modernize the US military through autonomous and AI-powered systems.

This TED speech is about him talking about the military, which is very interesting, at least for me, so I thought I would share it. A freeper informed me that a friend;s daughter married this brignt young man, and is now Mrs. Lucky Luckey.

It's the youth such as this that inspires hope for this nation. Perhaps he will one day lead this nation back to sanity:

No it’s not. It’s a reality that coulf very easily happen, especially if Iran were allowed to possess weapons. No one has ever threatened Tran, but Iran has threatened mutilple nation’s sice it came under the control with its current government fromation.

I listened to Mike Rowe’s interview with him. He’s an interesting guy for sure. I’m sure he causes some sleeplessness for execs at places like Raytheon and Lockheed-Martin. Anduril looks like it could be very disruptive for them.

Autonomous weapons.

Against whom? Foreigners? Us? We've already seen the surveillance community's systems turned inward.

The problem I have is the word “world”

Iran perhaps with the token aid of Russia and China would be fighting the USA and the Gulf states + Israel.

The Euro weanies are not really involved simply because they lack the capability to project in a meaningful way.

Russia is on her ass and absolutely not capable of projecting much beyond press briefings. China has lots of fish to fry and might see (is seeing) that dealing with the stronger customer base in America and the Gulf is the better way to go.

All of the world on the Pacific rim would not be involved. Ditto South Amerika and Africa.

I have had an Oculus Quest 2, renamed the Meta Quest 2, for a couple of years now. It is a brilliant device that I have enjoyed using, especially with flight simulators. Palmer Luckey is one of the few in the billionaire class that truly seems to be grounded and possesses common sense. And yes, this is largely because his mother home schooled him and allowed him to spread his wings with his early tinkering with electronics and computers.

Here is a summary of the video with time stamps prepared by Google’s Gemini:

In this TED Talk, Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus and Anduril Industries, discusses the urgent need to modernize the U.S. defense sector using AI and mass-produced autonomous systems to deter global conflict.

The Looming Threat and Economic Risks
Luckey begins by illustrating a hypothetical invasion of Taiwan by China, warning that the U.S. currently lacks the capacity and munitions to sustain such a high-intensity conflict [00:04]. He emphasizes that Taiwan is the epicenter of global semiconductor production, and its fall would trigger a worldwide economic depression [01:42].

The Stagnation of Defense Innovation
Luckey criticizes traditional defense contractors for prioritizing bureaucracy over breakthroughs, noting that commercial products like Teslas and Roombas often possess more advanced AI and autonomy than Pentagon weapon systems [03:49]. He argues that Silicon Valley’s historical reluctance to partner with the military has left national security vulnerable [03:27].

A New Model: Anduril Industries
To solve these issues, Luckey founded Anduril, a “defense product company” that uses its own capital to develop technology rapidly [04:16]. Key innovations include:

Lattice AI Platform: A software core that allows millions of systems to be updated at the “speed of code” [04:50].

Roadrunner: A twin turbojet-powered, reusable counter-drone interceptor that went from concept to combat-ready in under 24 months [05:36].

Deterrence Through AI and Mass Production
Luckey argues that peace is maintained by making aggression so costly that adversaries won’t attempt it [05:58]. Since the U.S. cannot match China’s numerical advantage in traditional hardware like ships and tanks, it must pivot to mass-produced, autonomous systems [06:57]. He envisions a “second greatest generation” that wins through manufacturing scale and AI adaptability, similar to how the U.S. industrially rallied during World War II [07:40].

Ethics and Autonomy in Warfare
Addressing the ethical concerns of “killer robots,” Luckey asserts that AI actually increases precision and reduces collateral damage [08:41]. He argues that refusing to use AI is an “abdication of responsibility,” especially since autonomous defense systems—like anti-ship mines and Aegis systems—have been in use for decades [11:58].

Human-Machine Integration
Finally, Luckey touches on his return to augmented reality (AR) through the IVAS program. His vision is to give soldiers “superhuman” capabilities—such as thermal and hyperspectral vision—allowing humans and robots to share a common, highly detailed view of the battlefield [14:24].

Well, in reality there has never been a world war at all, because not all nations got involved in the first so-called two world wars. But a world war is classified as a war that impacts the entire world in some form or fashion.

I am willing to bet that you call them both, world wars. The so-called world war three will be of the same caliber of war.

But instead of focusing on symantics, you need to stickwith the overall concept.Liberals (a.k.a. communists) constantly play the symantics card continuously. You really don't want that association , do you?

You seem like someone who would enjoy this discuss with three scientists making the case for intelligent design from a science -based point s view, not from a purely faith-based one.

The moderator in Peter Robinson of the Hoover Institute, and the scientists are:

Stephen C. Meyer:(born 1958) is an American philosopher of science and historian, best known as a leading advocate of intelligent design and the co-founder of the Center for Science and Culture (CSC) at the Discovery Institute.

Education: He earned bachelor's degrees in earth science and physics from Whitworth College (1981), worked as a geophysicist for ARCO, and received his M.Phil. (1987) and Ph.D. (1991) in the history and philosophy of science from the University of Cambridge.

Career: After serving as a professor at Whitworth College and Palm Beach Atlantic University, he left academia in 2002 to direct the CSC, where he promotes the "wedge strategy" for intelligent design.

Major Works: He is the author of New York Times bestsellers including Signature in the Cell (2009), Darwin’s Doubt (2013), and Return of the God Hypothesis (2021), which argue that biological information points to an intelligent creator.

John Lennox:

John Carson Lennox (born 7 November 1943) is a Northern Irish mathematician, bioethicist, and lay theologian. He has written many books on religion, ethics, the relationship between science and God (such as; Has Science Buried God and Can Science Explain Everything). He has also participated in public debates with atheists, including Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens.

Lennox earned a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Cambridge, followed by second and third doctorates from the University of Oxford and Cardiff University, respectively. As a professor, Lennox specialized in group theory. He is emeritus professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, where he is also Emeritus Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science at Green Templeton College, and has worked as adjunct lecturer at Wycliffe Hall and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is also an Associate Fellow of the SaĂŻd Business School and a Senior Fellow at the Trinity Forum.

James Mitchell Tour:

An American chemist, nanotechnologist and intelligent design proponent. He is a professor of chemistry and materials science and nanoengineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Tour received degrees from Syracuse University (BS, 1981), Purdue University (PhD, 1986 under Ei-ichi Negishi) and completed postdoctoral work at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1986–1987) and Stanford University (1987–1988).

Tour's work is primarily focused on carbon materials, chemistry and nanotechnology. Tour's work on carbon materials encompasses fullerene purification, composites, conductive inks for radio frequencies identification tags, carbon nanoreporters for identifying oil downhole, graphene synthesis from cookies and insects, graphitic electronic devices, carbon particle drug delivery for treatment of traumatic brain injury, the merging of 2D graphene with 1D nanotubes to make a conjoined hybrid material,[16] a new graphene-nanotube 2D material called rebar graphene,[17] graphene quantum dots from coal,[18] gas barrier composites,[19] graphene nanoribbon deicing films,[20] supercapacitors and battery device structures,[21][22] and water splitting to H2 and O2 using metal chalcogenides.

Well, since this technology was not a creation of his, it is conceiveable that , and iuis alread being played out in the Russia/Ukraine conflict, and now in the iran conflict.

He got into it to create autonomous weapons for this nation, to drive down the costs for combating hostilities at acheaper price, that also removes the human element from the equation on the battlefield directly.

As is the case with every innovation, there are those who will use them offensively, while others will use them defensively.

So, your observation, while accurate, is not accurate whhen it comes to describing Palmer Luckey's involvement with them.

In othr words, they are not his creation, they existed pior to his entry into this industry. Now he may end up buildding the proverbial better mouse trap, but the autonomous weapons have been around for a while now.

Not only will these save lives on our side of the ledger, the costs will be drasticly reduced in addition.

I take your point.

In my mind what is in process, and on the horizon, is a regional war. The war involves and directly affects several nations in the mid east region.

I understand that the whole world is affected by the price of energy.

Further, just using the term WW III is a journalistic sales tool to promote readers and viewers and magnify the events beyond the reality.

My response to the semantics game is to play myself by using and emphasizing counter points that are in fact made up but on target. At every opportunity we must refute the capture and misuse of the language for political advantage
