Eric Swalwell Endorsements Withdrawn: List Grows as Campaign Collapses
Newsweek ^ | 4/12/26 | Hugh Cameron

Posted on 04/12/2026 3:06:57 AM PDT by Libloather

Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell’s bid for California governor continues to be plagued by an exodus of staffers and supporters, following a series of sexual misconduct allegations against the congressman.

Since the allegations first emerged this week, multiple campaign aides have resigned and nearly every endorsement has been rescinded, with several leading Democratic figures calling for him to drop out of the race.

Swalwell has called the allegations against him “flat false,” and alleged that these were timed to disrupt his campaign.

Newsweek contacted the campaign via email outside of regular working hours for comment.

Why It Matters

Before the allegations against Swalwell came to light, weeks before ballots were set to reach voters, the East Bay congressman was among the front-runners in the wide-open race to replace the term-limited Governor Gavin Newsom.

What To Know

The campaign’s troubles follow reporting from the San Francisco Chronicle that an unidentified former staffer accused Swalwell of having sexual encounters with her while she worked for him and of sexually assaulting her twice when she was too intoxicated to consent.

I hope whatsherface, Gloria Allred, jumps into the alleged victims’ lives and SUES the crap out of that disgusting, smarmy POS. I want his entire history DRAGGED out on national television for the entire world to see how debased, evil and disgusting that loser is.

Unfortunately, his voters and supporters will not understand that THEY are the problem. I am sure many already knew what a lowlife he is.

Too bad. I would rather see his backing continue and his campaign continue. He would still get the Leftinsanity vote and would draw from the other Democrats who are running. It would pretty close to guarantee that the next governor would be a Republican.

If he drops out, I hope two or three other RATs file to run. Dilute the party’s options.

CA RATs know they’re in serious trouble looking at how high the two GOPs are in the stats. I can’t even imagine the level of desperation in the meetings to plan cheating there.

Swalwell is turning out to be another Anthony Weiner - a loudmouth with sexual perversions who is sacrificed to protect a more powerful Democrat.

I think some of it comes from the Democrat lock on NY and CA politics. It causes its representatives to believe that they are untouchable, and they behave that way, always pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with assuming that they would never be primaried.

And the razor-thin margins in the House are preventing leaders like Hakeem Jeffries from calling for Swalwell to resign - he's not good enough to run for Governor of California, but he's A-Ok to be their representative in Congress?

CANNOT BE TRUE!

Eric was on the Intel committee. CIA and FBI would’ve found something in his past. Therefore, Eric is of high moral standing, pure as the driven winter snow...

I think he makes a great candidate. Perfect actually.

Conservatives being stupid and helping the democrats stop the leftist vote splitting that would actually help someone more conservative win.

Shut up. Support Swalwell.

He is gone as a Congressman come Jan. He is not on the ballet for his current congressional seat. Time will tell if he makes it to Jan. It’s probably up to Pelosi, to tell Jeffries how to move forward with the scumbag.

Anna Paulina Luna filed a resolution calling for Swalwell's expulsion. The Democrats responded by calling for a resolution for Tony Gonsales' expulsion.

Gonzales was accused of having a consensual extramarital affair and sending lewd text messages to female staffers.

Swalwell was accused of multiple rapes.

Republicans should remind people of the 2005-2006 case of Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL), who was instant messaging 16/17-year-old gay male pages in the House, grooming them for ultimate pursuit once they turned 18. Pelosi pounced on that and created her "for the children" campaign that ousted Foley, Denny Hastart, and took control of the House for two decades.

Now, the Democrat party supports elementary school teachers talking to kindergarten and elementary school students about sex, homosexuality, gender identity, and gender change. That's a far, far, cry from Foley and "for the children."

Even if Swalwell will be gone in January, Luna's resolution would force the Democrats to go on the record protecting a Democrat rapist decades after they drove out a Republican groomer.

I have no special insight into why this is happening now or what triggered it.

But, it is not spontaneous or coincidental.

Somewhere, hidden from public view, a decision was made to take him out.

This is a coordinated, organized hit.

I’m thinking this was a scandal that was coming out sooner or later. The Rats decided sooner was better as primary mail in ballots are going out soon. They didn’t want his degenerate voters sending those back early only to have this scandle come out a week before the election and his day of election vote falls off a cliff. Wasted RAT mail in votes that Pelosi and company want going to someone with a chance to win. Well it’s a theory 🤔
