Do we send them AR’s or AK’s? The ammo they can take from IRGC will fit an AK47, but anything with ammo will work for a start.

I'm kinda wondering about that myself. Big chunks of the various Iranian armed forces use rifles and carbines chambered in 7.62x39 Soviet, 7.62x51 NATO, and 5.56x45 NATO. From what I can tell their pistols and smgs are basically universally 9x19 Luger. It's an interesting logistics situation.
As best I can tell trying to research the matter, most IRGC units use AK variants in 7.62x39. I would consequently expect the arms we've provided to any potential uprising in Iran to be 9x19 and 7.62x39 so as to enable the people using them to loot ammunition from IRGC forces and installations.
