Magic Mountain is worth $533 million less than Six Flags Entertainment Corp. previously thought, part of a broader reassessment that wiped out more than $1.5 billion in value across the company’s portfolio.
The write-down was disclosed in the company’s latest financial filing and reflects what accountants call a “goodwill and intangible asset impairment.”

That’s what happened here. The formal accounting test found that the assets were overstated.
Magic Mountain alone saw $533 million removed from the books. Other major parks, including Six Flags Great America ($192.8 million), Six Flags Over Georgia ($187.9 million), Six Flags Fiesta Texas ($103.8 million), Six Flags Great Adventure ($97.4 million), Six Flags Mexico ($89.3 million), Six Flags Over Texas ($86.8 million) and Schlitterbahn ($50.7 million) saw reductions.
The result was more than $1.5 billion in non-cash write-downs.
However, the “non-cash” phrase means that “no money left the bank, no gates closed, no rides stopped spinning. This is purely an accounting adjustment, a reset to align the books with reality,”

Moral of the story is to throw out all intangible assets from the balance sheet if you’re thinking of lending a company money.
I went there opening day way back when, haven’t been there in 20 years though. Been there at least 100 times over the years.
I enjoy Six Flags and drop into a park, when it’s open and I can spare the time.
