The write-down was disclosed in the company’s latest financial filing and reflects what accountants call a “goodwill and intangible asset impairment.”

...

That’s what happened here. The formal accounting test found that the assets were overstated.

Magic Mountain alone saw $533 million removed from the books. Other major parks, including Six Flags Great America ($192.8 million), Six Flags Over Georgia ($187.9 million), Six Flags Fiesta Texas ($103.8 million), Six Flags Great Adventure ($97.4 million), Six Flags Mexico ($89.3 million), Six Flags Over Texas ($86.8 million) and Schlitterbahn ($50.7 million) saw reductions.

The result was more than $1.5 billion in non-cash write-downs.

However, the “non-cash” phrase means that “no money left the bank, no gates closed, no rides stopped spinning. This is purely an accounting adjustment, a reset to align the books with reality,”

Moral of the story is to throw out all intangible assets from the balance sheet if you’re thinking of lending a company money.

I went there opening day way back when, haven’t been there in 20 years though. Been there at least 100 times over the years.

I enjoy Six Flags and drop into a park, when it’s open and I can spare the time.

I got to work at Magic Mountain back in the late 70s.
It was so much fun. After work parties.
I did two Summers.
I got to ride colossus before it opened to the public.
The memories.

Six Flags is likely going to destroy Cedar Point, since they acquired it via “merger” in 2024

“If you go to six flags over Georgia, you risk your life.”

I hear they have a ‘very diverse’ clientele.

I don't think so..? This isn't a land/improvements assessment, it's just onthe name/branding? So it doesn't affect anything at all really I think.
