Mamdani signs ‘emergency’ order to block concerts, food festivals at NYC parks during FIFA World Cup (6/11 to 7/19)

Soccer mega-fan Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an emergency order that will block events including some concerts and food festivals from city parkland during the FIFA World Cup.

The city Parks Department adopted the rule at the request of the NYPD, denying new permits for special events on park property during the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19.

The directive could block any events with 20 or more people that require the special permits which could even include birthday celebrations at the Big Apple’s 100 featured parks.

NYC Parks said it adopted the rule denying or restricting “special events” at the request of the police force because manpower will be stretched patrolling events tied to the soccer tournament as well as events commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

“To more effectively deploy resources and control overtime costs, the NYPD has recommended that the department deny certain permit applications for new events between June 11, 2026 and July 19, 2026,” the parks agency said.

Applications for events not held last year could be rejected.

But permits for demonstrations will be exempt from the rule, the agency said.

“The events associated with the FIFA World Cup and United States 250th anniversary will require significant realignment and deployment of NYPD personnel, which will further divert resources from regular assignments and from crime-fighting, public safety, and counter-terrorism duties,” according to the rule, which was signed by Mamdani and Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura.

Texans take note. When this takes over Texas, as it has Dallas suburbs and sneaking into the state house, not only will they make you renounce religion, they’ll make you pretend to like soccer. (And yes American football will be gone)

Sounds like a good time to have a protest in the park.

Permits for demonstrations are ok. Permits for community festivals are suspended.

Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Yes, they’ll issue a permit for that. You can’t celebrate the country, but you can protest against it to destroy it. May God have mercy on his soul- he needs it!

Yes. In this case Ugandan football. The voters in NYC ushered this in with some help from Andrew Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa and Hochul

I don’t care. Been to NYC, never going back. NYC’ers voted for this, now they can live with it. After Mamdani wrecks everything maybe they’ll see the error of their ways, even though they’ll already be screwed.

But the real reason for the EO is not that Mamdani hates gays and Puerto Ricans — he probably does — but hates American more than anything and he is not going the allow the USA’s 250th birthday party to interfere with the World Cup.

So there will be at least three Italian Catholic Street Feasts in this time period, Festa di San Antonio Arthur Ave the Bronx and on Sullivan Street in Manhattan and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Williamsburg, and smaller celebrations in East Harlem and Arthur Ave. And I am sure our new Woke Archbishop will quickly go along with Mamdani’s edict, the people may not be so accommodating. Calabrese, Apulianos, Sicilianos celebrated these feasts under moorish control or threat.

You know the seasonal customs of New York very well.
Have you lived there before?

I used to dream about going to NY to see live Broadway plays and to Art museums for a look at certain pieces I’ve seen in history books. Haven’t made it yet.

Well, no wonder you know so many details about all the feasts. You are a native New Yorker, and in your heart, you always will be. You have seen the before/ during/ and after many local changes.

I feel somewhat that way about Detroit, Michigan,
where I grew up at. For all of it’s problems over the years, I still recall plenty of good times during my younger years. I’m on the other side of the country now, though. Probably for good.

Why not buy a judge and have them overturn the EO on constitutional rights? Isn’t that what the liberals do? Follow up with an injunction on the mayor for trying an end run.
