The University of Virginia fired its head women’s basketball coach, Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, in a shocking move after the Cavaliers made a surprise run to the Sweet 16, though reports suggest a toxic culture had developed within the program.
Virginia had been coming off one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent memory – reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2000 – when the school made the announcement that Agugua-Hamilton was out in a terse statement released over the weekend.
But behind the scenes, Agugua-Hamilton was the subject of an internal investigation, USA Today reported.
The outlet also reported that there had been allegations of staff mistreatment.
Virginia sports reporter Jerry Ratcliffe reported, following the announcement, that the entire women’s basketball team, except for two players, had been preparing to enter the transfer portal.
Agugua-Hamilton had created an environment where her support staff had feared for their jobs due to abusive behavior towards them and threats to fire them, Ratcliffe reported.
“It was a toxic, nightmarish atmosphere,” one source told him.
Virginia did not provide a reason for their decision when they made the announcement.

I worked for two different black women. Both were stupid and incompetent and nasty. Both feared that they would be fired for doing their job poorly. Both would hold staff meetings and say, “If I go down — I’m taking y’all with me!!!”
It’s like a core part of the culture, I think.
My neighbor can confirm. She transferred.
Hmmmmmmmm
Dawn Staley Coach of South Caolina who got smoked by UCLA yesterday went to Virgina as a player. Apparently she was aghast at the news of Hamiltons firing and she going to find out why. I imagine we won’t be hearing from her anytime soon.
I have found a lot of women in positions of power.
Tend to try and prove themselves by being mean and nasty.
If you think you can trash-talk behind somebody’s back when they’re standing right there in front of you, you’re playing the wrong game. What goes around comes around.
Why is it always the sweet ones who are such devils when they get revved up?
Kamala Harris Syndrome.
The irony is that they are all dedicated feminists and hate men, but when they take charge they behave worse than the worst man you ever worked with!
I never had trouble working with men
I think this is an important point which applies to many (not all) women in the workplace.
1) They hate men and think that men are loud, angry, obnoxious, sexist and bullying.
2) They want to be equal to men. They want to be "just like men".
3) If such a woman gets into power, she will make it a point to be loud, angry, obnoxious, sexist and bullying.
In my opinion this is all flawed because men, in general, are not "loud, angry, obnoxious, sexist and bullying". Jerks are like that. Some men are jerks. But men don't TRY to be jerks. But some women get into power and they literally TRY to be jerks. Because they think all men are like that, and they want to be "equal".
I’ve had two excellent women bosses; the rest were dreadful.
My best bosses were older grumpy men who hated the PC culture as much as I did.
“Da bitches set me up!”
I walked out of A job after 27 years after a new women boss berated me for calling a hospital when my wife was in ICU. Also put 3 cameras on me and harassed me me for putting my feet up when I got tired!
Virginia again. What a crap hole it is now that it’s blue. Instead of Spamburgers, they got a blondie Sh*tburger sandwich.
I have this idea (probably not verifiable) that a lot of these women who don't understand men, didn't grow up with brothers. Maybe it's just me, but these girls don't really make sense in their groundless take on what a man is.
They try to ape what they think leadership is, based on their BS concept of men
Wow, that’s so sad. When my wife had to have cancer surgery a year ago, my employer, a Fortune 500 subsidiary basically told me not to come back till I felt like it. To take care of her and not worry about them.
My boss just said “Family First.”
I did go to our national sales meeting that month. I passed the CEO in the hallway and he said “what are you doing here?”
I took that as a compliment and was impressed that he even knew about it let alone cared.
“Women are the nurturing sex.”
