The real air supremacy story

Legacy media is doing what it does best -- spread misinformation and confusion -- in regard to Friday’s downing of a USAF F-15E Strike Eagle in western Iran. According to the usual suspects, this means that America has lost “air supremacy” and marks the moment when the tide turns completely in Iran’s favor and, sweeping all before them, enables them to achieve absolute victory by Sunday. Monday at the latest.

In truth, air supremacy (sometimes called “air dominance”) has nothing to do with anti-aircraft fire or the losses that it can incur. The USAF considers air supremacy to be the highest level of air superiority, when air assets can operate without meaningful opposition from enemy air forces. What this means is that the enemy will choose not to confront your air assets at all and will instead run like the wind, as has currently occurred in Iran. (With air superiority, while enemy aviation may attack, they can be easily dealt with and chased back where they came from.)

This does not mean that the enemy is totally helpless. If they possess anti-aircraft cannon and missiles, as the Iranians do, they can shoot down attacking aircraft, as we saw on Friday. But what does this have to do with air supremacy? Absolutely nothing. There is no way that flak (as the Germans called it) can dispute air dominance by a superior air force. In late 1944, when the U.S. achieved air superiority over Hitler’s Luftwaffe (apart from a handful of Me-262 jets), German flak was still taking down hundreds of Allied aircraft. In response, the USAAF assigned several wings of heavy bombers

It does seem like the MSM is rooting for the other side.

As I posted on another thread, perspective and context is important. America has hammered Iran heavily. Very heavily. Also, comparing the war with other wars shows just how heavy that hammering is.

- America lost 4,492 brave soldiers during the Iraq war with over 32,000 wounded.
- America lost 2,459 brave soldiers in Afghanistan (plus 18 CIA staff and over 1,800 contractors).
- As of today, America has only lost 13 brave soldiers in the Iranian war (more like an Iranian hammering). Everyone of those 13 soldiers a real loss, but massively low compared to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Looking at equipment losses:
- Shifting to the First Gulf War, the US lost 42 combat aircraft during the 43 days of the war. Looking at total coalition losses (US and allies), the total was 75 aircraft (52 fixed wing and 23 helicopters).
- Now, compare that with the Iran war …this is day 35 I believe, and so far we have two planes shot down by Iran (F-15 and A-10), we have the F-15s Kuwait shot down by ‘accident’, and I so in some sources two helicopters that may have been shot down by Iran (maybe). Even if you add all of that, it is very CLEAR that the loss ratio is MASSIVELY different from what happened in the Gulf war.

Bottom line: Do I wish President Trump didn’t go into Iran? Yes. However, he must have had a damn good reason to do so, and the combat losses/casualties on the US side are super low. It is a total hammering if Iran. Finally, I doubt President Trump will authorize a ground invasion as that would be a total tar baby, and he’s not dumb enough to do that.

Because the stakes are so high. Islam and Marxism are being clearly identified and they can not withstand the sunlight. Like cornered rats they are lashing out everywhere.

Another comparison - we fought in WWII from December 1941 to August 1945, a total of 45 months. We lost (IIRC) over 444,000 soldiers killed in action, almost 10,000 per month. We have lost 13 in just over a month in the current war.

Our society wasn’t complaining about casualties or questioning about exit strategies in Dec 1941. Our strategy was win the war, no matter the cost or how long it took. My problem with getting into these wars is that we lack the will as a society to do what we have to do to win. If we aren’t going to do what is necessary, we shouldn’t get involved to begin with. The enemy we fight is prepared to spend generations fighting and to lose millions of casualties. It’s hard to defeat an enemy when we are displaying such a lack of will

The real story here is that “low casualty numbers” misses the point.

Most Americans would probably tell you that another stupid war in the Middle East isn’t worth a single American life — or even $1 out of their pockets.

THAT is the political environment today. And I know this because this is why millions of Americans voted for Trump in the first place.

Not mentioned was the fact that US & Israeli aircraft are likely attacking different types of targets than those hit in the early days of the conflict. Instead of command, control, and communications buildings, or weapons factories, etc., that can be approached at high altitude, they might be striking individual IRGC units and other targets that require a low altitude approach, making the aircraft more vulnerable to antiaircraft artillery fire...

Keeping Iran from a nuclear weapon isn’t a “stupid war”.
Dismantling Iran’s capability to forment terrorism, which has cost thousands of American lives, isn’t a “stupid war”.
What is ‘stupid’ are your comments like this one.

It was reported on Tousi TV with a video that Iranian citizens are providing locations of IRGC individuals and targets to Mossad with a pin on a Google map.

Unfortunately, you of all people have zero credibility with me.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed the close correlation here on FR with people who are Iran war shills today … and were Branch Covidians and vax shills in 2020-21.

Probably 10,000 sorties with maybe three or four aircraft lost is a pretty good record.

These people that expect perfection probably have a success rate of about 60% in their own lives.

"...I am seeing more trolls then usual..."

Every day, there are probably five Freepers who hit the forum posting threads that are predictably from sources like Mediaite, The New York Times, Washington Post, or CNN.

People notice. There was a poster UCMRmom or something like that who posted Ukrainian BS all day, every day. I don't see she/he/it around as much, but still here, just not posting as uniformly or as often.

I suspect many people feel as I do, when they see these people post, their hackles go up, but someone else who does not post that same pap with that uniformity and frequency does not even register a shrug.

It is the people that predictably do it all the time. You read the headline first, then your eyes can go down to the person who started the thread, and it isn't a surprise.

The thing about war is that there are two sides but only one need be willing. Trump never wanted anything to do with any war he could avoid but one side is insane and bucking for nukes and hell bent on bringing back the 12th imam and regards us as Satanic. Not a lot of wiggle room there. Most sane Americans in December 1941 wanted nothing to do with war but they got it because one side was willing. The only bright spot I see in yet another of the endless Middle East conflagrations ( that probably shouldn’t be plural) is that Trump is un like any politician ever; he aims to WIN. Given the crazies we’re dealing with this could go anywhere but they give us no choice and it’s a guy who plays to advance at the helm.

The MSM always roots for the other side with a Republican is in charge.

See my tagline. Many do not know the Fourth Estate is the media and a Fifth Column is the enemy within. They have been the enemy within since the 60’s when they discovered lying to the American people goes both unchecked and is very successful at changing public opinion.

For the simple sake of mankind I sincerely hope there will never be another civil war here in the USA. But if there is, I foresee a major bloodbath where anyone with communist sympathies will be slaughtered. Americans are waking up to the facts and know what elements are directly responsible for all the chaos in America, and they are sick of it.
