A New York Times headline that laughably mischaracterized NATO as “A North American Treaty Organization” drew widespread scorn on Friday.
The glaring mangling of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s name quickly spread across X.

It’s the NYT way ....

Forget it, Jake ... it's the New York Times.
Fire the copy editor.
On second thought, keep him for future amusement.
It HAS to say “American” instead of “Atlantic”. “A North Atlantic Treaty Organization without America?” title doesn’t show how witty the NYT is.
It’s kinda hard to argue NATO’s primary purpose when you don’t get the function of its military alliance correct.
And that's the way it should be. Bilateral Agreement instead of an alliance system like NATO where you have countries getting away with not having to contribute.
So confusing for the dozens of people who read the NYT.
what? it’s not a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans??
Whenever I read about the NYT I am reminded of Pulitzer Prize winner Walter Duranty informing the US State Department that all of his correspondence were cleared by Stalin in accordance with an agreement with the Soviet Union. Kliefoth Memo: https://www.garethjones.org/Embassy-1.pdf. He was one of the reasons Americans knew nothing of the Holodomor.
I don’t know if it is he or some other NYT correspondent who’s buried in the Kremlin Wall in Moscow.
Forget it Jake, Its the NYT.
Any number of commentators from conservative sources could have made that obviously sarcastic twist as well.
How many times are acronyms given novel names here? Every day...
c’mon, just because fact-checkers are from somalia, is no reason yo complain about facts.
