The U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has been accused of “God-washing” the war in Iran.
Leading a Christian worship service at the Pentagon, he prayed for "every round to find its mark" and for “overwhelming violence" against America's enemies.
During the service, which was livestreamed and attended by military personnel, Hegseth also quoted from the Psalms, saying: "I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed."
Speaking to Sky News, U.S. pastor Rev Andy Campbell said the use of Scripture in conversations around the Iran war is troubling: “If you go to war and claim that God is on your side, then if you oppose war, you must be God-less”. He said he believed Mr Hegseth “wants to take people that he perceives as enemies and make them less than human.”
It comes as reports suggest the US Military Religious Freedom Foundation has received more than 200 complaints from members of the military about commanders invoking biblical rhetoric to justify involvement in the war in Iran.
Jared Huffman, chair of the Congressional Freedom Caucus, told Sky News: “Some of the more egregious examples are one from an active duty military member who alleges that their commander urged them to tell our troops that this war is all part of God's divine plan. Apparently, they referenced citations out of the book of Revelation and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.
“These biblical prophecies are being offered up to justify the war. People are being told that they need to risk their lives in order to accelerate Armageddon and live out these extreme interpretations of Scripture. The Secretary of Defence is making a concerted effort to God wash this terrible war.”
The full prayer read by Hegseth was attributed to a military chaplain: "Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation. Give them wisdom in every decision, endurance for the trial ahead, unbreakable unity, and overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy."

This is not in any way bringing encouragement to the families of those who've already been lost, nor the ones about to be deployed.
Please … stop with these nonsense sources, anti-Trump/Trump admin smear pieces.
Enough.
David’s biblical prayers for battle, found heavily in Psalms and 1 Samuel, focus on recognizing God as protector, strengthening him for combat, and seeking victory over enemies through divine intervention. Key themes include asking God to fight for him, shielding him from harm, and trusting that the Lord is his fortress.
Trust me, Pete will take it as a compliment.
Yes the Confederates did the same.
But as Lincoln noted there is a difference in praying for victory vs the presumption that God is actually behind what you’re doing. (And the way you’re doing it.)
Oh look, another cutesy Leftist slogan to add to their list of idiotic smear words/slogans.
Thats hardly God-washing (whatever that is). And I see no presumption that God has taken any side.
“Trump and Hegseth hating “apostle” of crazy people “Universalist” type church hates Trump and Hegseth.”
So brave. So courageous.
Gen. Keane on Kudlow today....”the best thing to do with them is to kill them...”
He was referring to IRGC members including the ones Trump is negotiating with.
I couldn’t agree more.

**One of the most particularly violent episodes** in the Old Testament committed by the Israelites is found in **Numbers 31** (the War Against the Midianites).
### What Happened:
After the Midianites were accused of leading the Israelites into idolatry and sexual immorality (Numbers 25), God commanded Moses to wage war against them. The Israelites, under Moses’ orders, attacked the Midianites and:
- Killed **every male** (including all the kings and the prophet Balaam).
- Killed **every non-virgin woman**.
- Took the **virgin girls** (estimated in the thousands) as captives.
- Burned all the Midianite cities and towns to the ground.
- Looted massive amounts of gold, silver, livestock, and other plunder.
Moses became angry with the returning soldiers because they had spared the women, and he ordered them to kill **all the boys and all the non-virgin women**, keeping only the virgin girls for themselves.
### Key Verse (Numbers 31:17-18, NIV):
> “Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.”
This episode is widely regarded as one of the most brutal and morally disturbing passages in the Old Testament because it explicitly includes the killing of non-combatants (women and children) and the taking of young girls as war spoils.
Is “God washing” the new MSM attack catch phrase to use on religious Trump Administration officials?
When “Our” God does it it’s OK.
Some we are Good.😄
When "christian" news -- lower case to distinguish from Christians -- resorts to lying, it is demonstrably not Christian.
But it is British-backed.
Did you suddenly get appointed monitor? At one time this forum thrived on vigorous discussion from different view points. Lockstep hive mind was a feature of Leftist sites. Not FR.
So, in order to defeat a theocratic regime hell bent on destroying the infidels, we must become just like them and use mythical bs as justification?
That should work out just fine.
Because they didn’t do what Moses told them to do, they paid for it later.
The Bible is mythical BS to you?
Did you suddenly get appointed defender of propaganda news??
Repeat, unreliable, fake news sources deserve no “vigorous”, real discussion, here.
