The parents of Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm used limited liability companies to funnel millions of dollars out of his financial accounts for their own use, according to a lawsuit obtained by the Daily Mail.
'Though Alec's investigation into the status of his assets remains on-going and is far from complete, an initial investigation leads Alec to believe and, therefore, aver that [his parents] Daniel and Lisa misappropriated a very large sum of money from Alec,' read the complaint.
In total, Alec claims his parents tried to 'freeze' him out of four LLCs as they 'converted a sizeable amount' of his earnings into accounts intended for their own use. The 29-year-old slugger is seeking at least $1 million as well as interest, penalties, costs, attorneys' fees and anything else the court deems appropriate.
Filed in Pennsylvania and first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the lawsuit claims Daniel and Lisa Bohm set up two LLCs for their baseball star son in 2019 so they could manage his growing assets. Alec's parents told him they would need to hold a 10-percent stake in the LLCs in order to administer his funds, but insisted he still 'owned all the assets, funds, and anything else,' according to the filing.
'Daniel and Lisa repeatedly advised Alec that, whenever they acted on his behalf, they did so as Alec's parents — whose assistance always came free of charge,' the lawsuit continued.
Alec's parents also launched a foundation in his name, but according to the lawsuit, both the LLCs and the charity were used by Daniel and Lisa for their own financial purposes.

As of the 2026 season, Alec Bohm is earning $10.2 million for the year under a one‑year contract he agreed to with the Philadelphia Phillies to avoid salary arbitration. This amount is his annual salary for 2026 and is the figure most commonly referenced when people talk about his yearly pay.
40% in taxes.
Sounds like there may be a bit of family tension there. Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers could be awkward.
Mostly the child would give them the money if they asked but they don't want to ask.
It is a weird dynamic.
He might have been willing to take care of them, if they had been good parents.
Daniel and Lisa Bohm!
Years of fraud???
Seems as if Somalian parents can have Christian names...
Thanks mom. Thanks dad.

Regards,
There has to be more to the story. As a retired practicing lawyer that focused in heavy tax planning with the use of entities, it seems to me that there was a communication issue with the parents and “advisors” of Mr. Brohm. Of course his agreement with consent would have had to be given for the transfer of any of his funds. Many liability “targets” have used LLCs and foundations to minimize/eliminate taxes. But, the story is silent s to who the manager of the LLCs is and the structure of the private foundation. Sorry excuse for journalism. Brohm’s salary was subject to huge income tax, but nothing is said in the story about what benefits were accepted by him. Proper tax planning is a useful task that is recognized. I had a client, that was a MLB relief pitcher that went from $4.3 million/year to paying 28% before planning (because although he lived in tax free Texas, he owed taxes in every state he played a game within) to a net of paying 7% after using a private foundation. We looked at additional strategies, but he was not comfortable with them. And as I’ve told him, and all my clients, I have ideas, but the decision and money is his. That is why I think the full story is not reflected in the story. The court trial, if any, will reveal the blemishes of Brohm and who is advising him.
P.S. I had Brohm in a fantasy league last season, but now question his judgment to be on my team this one.

He hit a 3 run homer last night to propel the Phillies to their win.
