I'm a millionaire living in Washington. I'm happy to pay more in taxes — it helps everybody. [AWFUL barf alert]

(snip) I've been at both ends of the spectrum, financially.

Becoming a millionaire is definitely not as simple as pulling yourself up and just doing the hard work. There's so much else that factors in — including a lot of luck. I got lucky.

It makes me mad when people say, "Well, I did it, so you can."(snip)

People should be able to get wealthy — there's nothing wrong with that. The thing is, just pay your fair share of taxes. That's the bottom line.(snip)

It's just a healthier way of structuring society than holding people down and taxing people into poverty, while people at the very high end are not contributing their share.(snip)

The new legislation in Washington is a 9.9% tax on income — not under stocks or anything — over $1 million a year starting in 2028, and then the first payments would be in 2029.

It's only less than 1% of people in Washington state who would be subject to this.

I recognize that as you gain more wealth, you keep looking around the corner saying, "Oh, if I had more, I could do this. I don't want to lose any of my money because I'm already looking at this new thing."

I believe it is a syndrome of excessive wealth disorder. (snip)

I just believe that there is excessive wealth, and it's getting worse — it's only going to get worse in very quick fashion.

Our inequality is so drastic. (snip)

We can see the impact of the excessive wealth inequality that's happening in our society, and it's very dangerous for all of us.(snip)

I'm just passionate about helping the people who want to do well.

It's just the right thing to do.

Why doesn’t she pay her “fair share” now instead of waiting? There is no law forbidding her to send a bigger check to the US Treasury. I’d pay more but it would just end up in Somalia instead of Shelby.

If he was happy to, he would just voluntarily do so without laws compelling everyone else to as well. He would do it regardless of what laws were on the books.

Thats where you can tell they are lying.

She must not have a husband or children! While I don’t think children should be coddled but I would not be volunteering to give more money to be spent on lazy bums and to line Pelosi’s pockets when I could ensure my children and as many subsequent decedents would not be homeless or go hungry. She is an absolute fool!

She can have at it. I’ve seen enough government fraud, waste, and abuse to make me physically ill every April 15th!

I read American NGOs have a total of $15,000,000,000,000.00 in funds on account. NGOs get their money from our government, and then feed it to political activities, campaigns, friends, family members, friends of friends and on and on!

You do not hate these people enough!

She is free to send in a check any time.

But she does not.

And undoubtedly has her accountant working so she pays the lowest amount she can.

OK...fair enough.Anyone who wants to 'donate" $$$ to the IRS over and above what they're required to send is OK in my book.

True story: here in the Gay State (Massachusetts) there's been a line on the state income tax return that allows a person to voluntarily pay state tax at a rate *higher* than the rate required by law. A local Boston talk show host (Howie Carr) checks the records each year and consistently finds that no more than a couple of hundred returns (in a state of 7 million people) check that box. And,of course,we're one of the most Maoist of the 50 states *and* were just about the richest state of the 50 (in terms of household net worth).

So,when it comes to taxation we should remember that the richest, most "caring",of the 50 states has the same attitude toward taxation that the people of Martha's Vineyard have toward wetbacks.

IOW...phonies!

It doesnt affect her. Washington state could impose taxes where 100% of the income is paid in taxes and it would not affect her. It is why she supports it, because she wouldn’t pay it. You would.

Millionaires and billionaires dint have incomes. They dont need incomes. Their business own their personal assets and pay for them. They make use of other revenue streams, like borrowing money and paying 2% interest and draw just enough income to pay the loan, balanced with the minimization of taxes. In effect, most of them have no incomes at all.

Pay as much as you want to the government.

But when you tell me how much I need to pay, you've crossed a line.

Thats why Bill Gates asks to double his income taxes, because you pay that. When you suggest wealth taxes, which I don’t advocate for, he says he’d leave the country rather than pay that.

Being a millionaire doesn’t mean you earn $1 million per year. She is fronting and won’t ever pay an extra dollar as this legislation doesn’t impact her.

If this guy is happy paying more taxes, why doesn’t he just send the government as much as he wants without being told he has to pay more.

Vacation home in Mount Vernon? I grew up about ten miles south of Mt. Vernon. Trust me, there is no reason someone from MA would have a vacation home in Mt. Vernon unless there was a family connection or similar reason. It’s a nice area, but farming is the local economy, not exactly beckoning for eastern liberals. However, the San Juan Islands are close, and plenty of Daddy Warbucks types have second, or more homes there.

Sorry, I missed that was WA state.
I thought DC.
I guess she made her money fair and square.
But she does not need to wait for 9.9% tax, she can just donate the money for the state!
WA people would appreciate donation.
