Heart-pounding audio captured the frantic moments before Sunday’s fatal collision involving an Air Canada passenger plane and a firefighting truck at LaGuardia Airport — with one air traffic controller admitting after they “messed up.”
Air traffic controllers urged an incoming plane to go around as the crash unfolded on the ground, killing the jet’s pilot and co-pilot, according to LiveATC audio.
The truck was cleared to cross the airport’s Runway 4 before air traffic controllers urged a Frontier plane bound for Miami and the vehicle to stop.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop,” the controller frantically demanded. “Truck 1, stop, stop, stop. Stop, Truck 1. Stop.”
The controller ordered Delta Flight 2603, en route from Detroit, to go around before turning back to the Air Canada plane — a Jazz Aviation operated flight that touched down from Montreal.

If there isn’t already, there needs to be a fire station on both sides of the runways at LaGuardia so the FD doesn’t have to cross either/both runways to get where they need to go.

If I understand the article correctly, the ATCs have control of all vehicles on the tarmac....not just aircraft.
Apparently it was foggy. Seems to be a lot of factors involved in this one.
He was cleared to cross 4...so definitely a big screwup.
With crossing runways, like LGA, that is impractical.

the ATC is a heavy office to hold and this slip up will haunt him for his entire life. In his conscience and the feelings of guilt and shame will not require amplification from the public and blogosphere.

I just had someone ask me if it was “one of the new guys Trump sent in”. I had to explain that was TSA, not ATC. But, as the left knows, most will not be get this kind of immediate correction. I am sick of these lying, duplicitous bastards. At least, we have libtards melting down in TSA lines to look forward to. There will be a lot of industrial strength FAFO in the next few days. :-)

Yes, there are specific ground controllers who monitor and approve movement on the tarmac, taxiways, etc.
Prayers up for all involved. NONE of them expected this to happen when they started their day.
It was my understanding that all major airports have vehicle roadways to keep non-aircraft traffic off of the tarmac/taxiways (except in emergencies).
This is as bad as the Blackhawk incident at Reagan DCA.
