According to the Greek Reporter, an ancient mosaic was discovered in central Athens during construction work on Evripidou Street. Large sections of the floor appear to remain intact. Archaeologists are examining the mosaic in an effort to date it and determine if the floor belonged to a private residence or a public area. To read about lead curse tablets unearthed at Athens' Kerameikos necropolis, go to "The Cursing Well."

When you think of how much work went into making that floor, placing each little piece of color tile, exactly where it is… And the fact that it’s survive thousands of years… That’s pretty damn cool.
We have LVP
It’s beautiful
What is the big deal? That kind of flooring has been around for millenniums. ;-D
I was pretty blown away by the interior of Saint Mark’s Basilica when you realize how tiny the mosaic pieces are, and how much work must have gone into it, especially the cupolas. “Only” 900 years old, but still. Same with some of the mosaic “paintings” at Saint Peter’s Basilica. You had to look pretty close to notice they weren’t paint.
Absolutely stunning. It takes a type of love to produce beautiful things like that.
And someone had to lay out the design ahead of time, long before the first tile was put in place… Thought it went into it, heart went into it, and the whole hell of a lot of work.
Hands crippled with arthritis, eyes ruined from staring, and squinting… That was no one week job… Sort of like Michelangelo laying on his back, painting the Sistine chapel ceiling.
Things like that live on long after we’re gone.
They have a street in Athens named for Euripides, even though Aristophanes exposed him for being a misogynist? Toxic masculinity still rules Athens!
It is. Even the mosaics that were under plowed fields are sometimes in pretty good shape.
Call 1-800-EMPIRE !
😁 Euriphanes said the same thing about Aristopides. Water under the bridge.
2000 years from now the Craftsman warranty will still be good.
I spent a great week in Greece a long time ago, saw similar things throughout the country. Hired a guide who stayed with us for the week and we saw everything worth seeing at the time.
Highly recommend spending a few bucks for travel to Greece. Italy was wonderful too.
I would LOVE to roam through Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Egypt! Those ancient places and artifacts fascinate me to no end. This world is well stocked with such things. I bet we don’t have a clue about many civilizations rose, flourished, and then faded into nothingness.
Built to last the ages
Actually,, I was paid to travel to most of those countries. Back in the day when PanAm flew, I was a travel writer for them. First class everything all the way and everything free except stuff I bought to take home. And they paid me for using photos I took.
Loved Turkey, but I think it sucks now with Islamist Erdogan running the country. Do some research before you go. Greece was fascinating, but I couldn’t eat the food, it was so salty. Didn’t hurt to miss a few meals, plus I stopped at local markets and bought fresh salad greens, washed them in bathtub in best hotel in Athens. The maids had a good laugh.
Spent a month in Italy at my own expense. Dear friends lived in a suburb of Rome and I stayed with them when I wasn’t jumping on a plane or tour bus to see other attractions.
It was wonderful, kind of sad thaat I can’t go to some other places now, but I’ll be 90 in June and don’t want to leave my beloved cat. Did go to New Orleans a few months ago, fun but I’m not the great traveler I once was.
Do everythinh you want to do while you still can. Life is fun.
Amen FRiend, Amen!!
Blessings on a life well lived,
Tatt
