Trump Has Just Told NATO Allies They Are On Their Own. Starmer Did This
Canada Free Press ^ | Jim Chimirie

Posted on 03/18/2026 8:30:50 AM PDT by Tench_Coxe

NATO allies, he wrote, privately agreed that Iran could not be allowed a nuclear weapon but refused to help when asked. America no longer needs or desires their assistance. We never did. Let that land.

This is not bluster. It is a doctrine. Trump is telling every European government that the Article 5 guarantee they have sheltered under for seventy years was always conditional, and that they have now demonstrated they will not honour their side of the arrangement when it matters. The mutual defence alliance that kept the peace in Europe since 1949 has just been publicly declared a one way street by the President of the United States. Every adversary watching, Russia, China, Iran, will draw the same conclusion simultaneously.

(snip)

A Western alliance whose European members privately agree on the threat but publicly refuse to act against it is not an alliance. It is a talking shop with a defence clause nobody intends to honour.

Anyone who would let their countries be overrun by the muslim hordes cannot be trusted.

A nuclear armed UK is not in our best interest.

The Venn diagram of “the deep state” and “Atlanticist” DC is nearly a 100% overlap.

Trump is exposing them.

Well said. If you have no sense of self-preservation how could we trust you to ever be a reliable ally?

I really believe that Trump set them up with this request for help. Of course the press is framing it as a loss, but I think he accomplished exactly what he wanted. And all the idiots who think they’re smarter than him fell for it hook, line, and sinker, again.

Might be a gray area.

Other NATO members might think that an individual country that starts a war that has no effect on NATO members and isn’t felt necessary by them, that they are not bound to assist that individual country.

All Trump has done is reveal what the truth is, he did not cause it....

Starting years ago with the fact that America was pretty much the only country funding NATO. So they want our protection AND they don't want to pay for it - yep, NATO is in trouble.

Nonsense. President Trump hasn’t used available NATO mechanisms. That’s his choice. He’s just running his mouth for domestic politics all while using NATO bases in support of this US military operation.

It is not even a gray area. Nato collective defense is invoked when a member is attacked and that attack is in Europe or North America. This objectively fails the geography test. And we attacked Iran, Iran didn’t attack us.

Here is the actual Article 5 text:

“The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.”

I would have to say that every article I've seen posted here on FR in recent weeks related to NATO and Iran is either deliberately deceptive or is grounded in complete ignorance.

Does anyone posting on FR about this subject even know what NATO Article 5 says?

I'll post the relevant text from it here (emphasis is mine):

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all ...

So let's break this down in simple terms for the Fox News retardates who have been peddling bullsh!t propaganda about this in recent weeks:

1. Iran is not in North America. Neither is Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel or any other place where "Iranian proxies" have allegedly attacked U.S. targets.

2. The territorial definitions of Article 6 of the NATO treaty don't apply to the U.S./Israel-Iran conflict, either.

3. "We must stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon" does not trigger a NATO response under Article 5 in any way, shape or form.

4. Let's go back to the days when Democrats in the White House were justifiably hammered here on FR for abusing NATO and extending its "defense obligations" to include military campaigns in Serbia-Bosnia-Kosovo, Libya, etc. If we are going to accept that all decisions related to NATO obligations are going to be completely politicized (i.e., the same decision is fine during a Trump administration but not when there's a Democrat in the White House), then stop posting these propaganda articles on FR and leave that conversation to the retards on Fox News.
