Einstein is now presented to the world as a kindly old uncle kind of guy.

But he was actually a pretty arrogant person - stubborn and sure of his theories even when they were wrong.

...Pi was an infinite concept. I think he’s still a bit unsettled about this...

Squaring the Circle use to be a big riddle for people. You don't hear about it much anymore because it was proven mathematically to be impossible to do it exactly. Pi is a Transcendental number, a notorious thing to prove even though their are an infinite amount of them .

The first PI day was in the waning years of the 16th century.

Wow, there’s quite an art and a science involved in all of that.

As far as birthdays are concerned, and good jobs, depending...

3.14159265, the first nine digits of pi, can be read as “san-i-shi-i-ko-ku-ni-mu-kō” (産医師異国に向こう), meaning “an obstetrician faces towards a foreign country”.

..couldn’t accept that pi was an irrational number..

It was the square root of 2 that was first proved to be irrational . It is a legend that that supporters of Pythagoras murdered Hippasus -- who allegedly discovered the irrationality of 2–√ on a boat in the middle of the sea -- by throwing him overboard immediately after he informed them of his discovery. Hippasus pretty much destroyed the belief that the universe only had rational numbers in it.

I suspect that maybe your brain has to be wired a little differently.

Many years ago I taught a remedial math course. One of my students could barely add a column of numbers together. That’s why he was in the course.

But he could do square roots in his head. And I don’t mean just the easy ones. Ask him what the square root of 576 was, he’d think for a second then tell say 24.

So you never know.

Why is Marx famous? Because of Lenin , who obviously took his insane ideas to a whole new level . Even after so much failure and tragedy the lure of socialism remains . Why so many people still want something that always has turned out so bad is a problem that remains unsolved.

1592!

That must have really created a mess between the Julian Pi Day people and the Gregorian Pi Day people.

The battle must have been brutal. Origin of pi-throwing competitions?

I sometimes wonder if Ayn Rand based her #1 villain in Atlas Shrugged on Einstein.

Did he join the Navy? Seems like a no-brainer because he was always squared away!

...I use pi and e =3. Works pretty good...

e is sometimes called the Andrew Jackson number. The seventh President elected twice starting in 1828. 2.718281828...

I take care of my mentally challenged ex-sister-in-law. She cannot add simple numbers, but she is a date savant. She never forgets a person’s birthday and can tell you what day of the week a future date will be in just a few seconds. It’s so weird!

Today is my son’s 37th birthday. He is coincidentally a math whiz...

I did not know pi was named after Einstein’s birthday. And you should not shorten pi to 3.14. You should type the whole thing.
