A spate of fires and disasters has befallen the city's historic architecture over the years, raising questions about whether these are freak accidents or a symptom of wider issues.
"Each time these collapses or fires happen, the same conversations happen and everyone agrees it's terrible and we should do something about it," says Matt Loader, co-founder of architecture firm Loader Monteith. "Then 18 months later it happens again somewhere.

Demolition of the remains of the Union Street building began on Friday.
Niall Murphy, director of Glasgow City Heritage Trust, told BBC Radio 4's PM programme, "there is definitely a perception that Glasgow has more than its fair share of fires."
"They're very high profile fires in main streets," he added, "and that has an impact on the psyche on the city."
Glasgow has the highest number of at risk buildings in Scotland.
This is due to "upper floor vacancies, which is tied to economic cycles, to shifts in business and to A-grade office space being available elsewhere".
The local authority stresses it has invested about £280m in heritage projects across the city in the past dozen years or so.
A spokesperson said: "It should be understood that the owners of buildings, including heritage buildings, are responsible for their maintenance and protection."

Britain has had open borders for some time, and no one should be surprised that people in the U.K. with contempt for its history as a Christian nation with an official church are burning down historic buildings, especially churches.
There’s only one group of religious fanatics I can think of that wants to destroy all other cultural history.
It’s almost too hard to believe, but Glasgow is now roughly 9% Muslim. So should we be jumping to conclusions? Yeah, maybe.
I’ll say it. It’s definitely muslims burning down buildings. It’s kind of a hobby for them.
It probably has something to do with the enemy that was allowed to pass through the gates.
Insurance?

Howz about one burned mosque for each burned building?
Sooner or later, that’ll be the deal, oh ‘religion’ of hate, misogyny, lying, boy boinking and dog-hating.
It’s ‘Gentrification’ by your welcomed invaders! Nothing to worry about! And don’t you DARE try to find out who is doing this! That’s racist!

Are they building Aloha Snackbars next to them?
In the fire service we used to say suspicious fires were due to “spontaneous combustion”. It was the mortgage rubbing against the insurance policy.
Cause they’re made out of wood, and they’re really old, and well, they’ve got a lot of these historic buildings.
Everything on this planet is temporary. That’s how it works.

A church burns, and it’s an accident. Faulty wiring, squirrels playing with matches, etc. Nothing to see here. Let’s all move along.
But should a mosque burn, the full weight of the police will be applied. Even folks who simply question Islam online will be caught up in the investigation.
saracens and apefricans
I always heard those called “friction fires”
Of course they don’t tell you what the fire investigations turned up. Coulter rule applies.
Occam’s Razor applies since these structures aren’t churches.
1. Permitted UK migrant crisis,
2. Glasgow homeless & migrant policies attract more than the city can handle,
3. Burned buildings were vacant, old and tinderbox.
The answer to the question highlights the ongoing problem which lies squarely with 10 Downing Street...

I’ve been to Glasgow and if it’s not churches, then I’d suspect junkies. Overall, Scotland is a great place, they love it when they find out you drove up from London to see them, but there are some really depressing parts.

Somebody back in the day was bribing inspectors?
