Not satisfied with being commander-in-chief, Donald Trump has become the White House’s very own shoe salesman.
The US president has been buying his favourite shoes for his staff so frequently that they have become the unofficial White House uniform.
One female White House official told the Wall Street Journal: “All the boys have them. It’s hysterical because everybody’s afraid not to wear them.”
Mr Trump has fallen in love with Florsheim, a brand that sells some pairs for as little as $49.90 (£37.27) – a far cry from his expensive Brioni suits.
The president has been buying the shoes for agency heads and members of Congress. He often speaks about how “incredible” they are.
Such is Mr Trump’s devotion to the brand, that he guesses people’s shoe size in front of them, puts in the order, and a week later it turns up, sometimes with the president’s signature on the box.
That includes one unnamed cabinet secretary who had to stop wearing his Louis Vuittons and put on a pair of Florsheims instead.
Among those who have a pair of Trump-approved Florsheims are JD Vance, the vice-president, Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, Pete Hegseth, the defence secretary, and Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary.
Mr Trump’s friends, Fox News personality Sean Hannity and Senator Lindsey Graham, also have a pair each.

Looks like a nice shoe. I’m one of those slobs that can’t get away with wearing anything dressy though. I look absolutely ridiculous in anything nice. So it’s sneakers and baseball hats for me until the end. Anyone else here like that or know what I mean? Those shoes would make me look like a total clown.

Hegseth hasn’t a clue how to dress. His blue suit looks like fairy dust. It’s too tight because he want to show off how buff he is. You don’t wear brown shoes with anything not in the brown spectrum. Rubio an The Donald are the best dressed in the administrations.

Brown shoes with any color suit have been “in” for a few years, now.
Dad was a contrast between his bohemian tendencies and his military bearing. He was always interested in things and interesting himself. Around our 40 acres on the hill summer was shorts and sometimes a shirt and seldom shoes but he was always neatly dressed and ship shape when leaving the front gate.
Maximum performance was always expected in whatever I did. About the most scolding I ever got was, “I’m disappointed in your behavior.” that was enough to make the point.
Whatever Dad didn’t do for upholding all standards Mom did. It was good for upbringing.

My dad would only buy us Florsheim shoes. They lasted forever. What’s the downside?
I worked at Pappagallo (women’s) Shoes for about 2 weeks as a teenager. I came from a family without much money. As children, we only ever had one pair of shoes, each.
I struggled with the idea of the money being wasted on these shoes in every color and matching purses that buttoned on to a wooden frame and the women coming in to buy them, as if the money meant nothing to them. I guess I never got over that attitude, but am not quite so critical in my lower old age.

Yes, I think menswear providers have determined that they can sell ALOT more suits by promoting the idea that the jackets must be at least a size too small, so there is pulling on the fronts when buttoned. Then the pants are so tight and tapered that there is no way to get a proper length, because they are too small around the ankles to drape onto the shoe tops. It is maddening to try to shorten those slacks and achieve an appropriate length, IMO.

I got a new pair of tennis shoes the week before school started.
A new pair of dress shoes each Easter. Always a size too large but tissue paper in the toe area helped.
I think I’d continue to wear my own shoes and tell Trump I had his mounted in a shadow box in my man cave. Then I’d bring them in and ask him to autograph the soles.

The day came when I, an Army soldier, went through Checkpoint Charlie in my Class-A dress uniform to ogle at East Berlin and disturb the Commies ruling it. Had fun eluding my assigned tail and then sneaking up on him (gave him a $20 bill and he acted like that was a months pay. It WAS).
Problem was wearing the assigned dress shoes for that much mileage, as they tore right into my heels. After that it was Florsheims forever! Never needing polishing they saved me hours of extra work passing inspections.
That was my brand when I was doing the suit and tie thing. Now it’s nice jeans, a polo shirt and better customers.
