Trump claims he’s brought prices down so much that Democrats don’t say ‘affordability’ anymore

MIAMI — President Trump said Monday that he’s brought prices down so much that Democrats have stopped using the word “affordability.”

“They also gave us very high prices and then they said the word, ‘affordability.’ That’s first time I ever heard it,” Trump said at the annual House Republican retreat in Miami.

“My first day in office, they said, ‘affordability,’ They’re the ones that caused the problem,” he continued. “But we’re really bringing down prices big.

“Do you notice you don’t hear that word anymore? … They don’t say it anymore because we brought down prices so much.”

Trump said the GOP message ahead of the midterm elections should be “simple.”

“Democrats created the high prices and our policies are totally ending them,” the president declared.

Gas prices have surged following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dozens of senior officials in Tehran as well as Tehran’s ballistic missile and drone capacities.

The Feb. 28 military action prompted retaliatory attacks from Iran on Israel and neighboring Persian Gulf countries — as well as the shuttering of the Strait of Hormuz.

Nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the channel, and Trump has vowed to do anything necessary to keep the barrels moving out of Gulf on tankers — including floating US ships escorting the vessels.

The commies announced it and have been hammered on it ever since then. It's nice to see.

Prices have come down?

Or does Trump mean that he slowed their rate of increase?

I've not noticed the price of anything actually come down.

(I know some will accuse me of TDS for not noticing that prices have come down.)

Yup. Eggs... GOP politicians... I just bought Thune to block the SAVE act for $3.27 and a half eaten bag of Twizzlers.

Not the good, cherry, kind.

Black licorice.

Someone threw it away in the alley behind the movie theater.

I guess, if you say so. I haven’t seen the price of anything fall or decrease in the last year. It’s all been smoke, mirrors, and lies.

What about beefsteak and lamb chops?
I rarely buy that kind of meat anymore.
Too expensive.
Pork and chicken remain reasonable.
The filleted fish I normally buy, Salmon, Swai and Tilapia fluctuate.

Beef is still unaffordable.

America First Refining is primarily a shale and tar sands refiner.

The good thing about $100 barrel oil is it makes shale and tar sands competitive with light crude. There are hundreds of business reports showing the profit line is at around $100 per barrel, since shale and tar sands require more extensive refining.

Beef is still unaffordable.

Bottom-round isn't too ridiculously expensive, but about the only way it tastes decent is in something like stew or pot pies.

Regarding non-beef items, I'll grant that eggs have come down, but everything else in my local grocery store has either stayed the same or gone up.

I know Pres. Trump can't set prices, but I sure wish some of these stores would have a sudden attack of decency and consideration for their fellow citizens.

This does not apply to health insurance, which from my point of view has *quintupled*, from 1k/mo. to 5k/mo.

It is? I am buying it just as often. Steaks and ground beef. It’s higher, but is not unaffordable. Sheesh. The hyperbole on FR is crazy.

The inflation rate is lower, but inflation is higher.

That's the nature of inflation and the massive spending we have with government and the nature of incentives and tax advantages. 2 percent plus higher each year is being stuck in the gerbil wheel for middle class and lower incomes.

The allied media drives the narrative for Democrats. The media created the affordability narrative for Dems to use. They used it and if they move on to a narrative about Trump’s 20 year Iran war, the media will double team picking up the affordability narrative again.
