American Women’s Bobsled Team Comes In Last After Stopping To Ask For Directions

The gold medal hopes of one pair of U.S. athletes were dashed this week, as the American women's bobsled team came in last place after stopping to ask for directions.

Elana Meyers Taylor and Jadin O'Brien, competing in the 2-Woman Bobsled event, were considered strong contenders to reach the podium but suffered a shocking fall in the standings after briefly stopping during the middle of their run to ask for directions to the finish line.

"They just wanted to make sure," one spectator said. "They were given clear directions before the competition… and a map… but they ended up not knowing where they were and decided to stop to ask for directions. They were on pace to challenge for the top spot on the leaderboard, but unfortunately, that stop added an extra 15 seconds to their time and landed them in dead last."

There’s something very ‘low budget’ with those woman’s bobsled teams. For instance they seem to have the bizarre habit of wearing their helmet bags on their heads when waiting for their runs.

To be honest, I admire women who will stop and ask for directions.

Like most men, I don’t. I don’t need any outside help. I can navigate entirely on my own.

Which might explain how I once ended up in West Virginia when I was heading south to Pittsburgh. Overshot Pittsburgh completely. This was at night. So I blame poorly lit road signs. Not my fault at all.

Of course that was back in the old days, before GPS.

Naw, the men’s bobsled team would stop at Buc-ee’s for jerky.

I never get lost. I am simply exploring new territory.

We’re lost but we’re making good time.

Back then you could get paper Trip Tickets from AAA which were customized maps of your trip routes.

And a man gave them directions so they did the opposite. Because they knew he was wrong.

Hey, it wasn’t their fault. Their GPS sent them uphill. At least they had the sense to stop and check.

LOL - that’s hilarious!

My sense of direction sucks and I own it. Before GPS, I had no problem asking for directions. But of course, I’m a girl. Before everyone had cell phones (I got my first one in 1995), I sometimes had to stop at a pay phone to call my destination for clarification.

My motto was, “I don’t get lost. I just make wrong turns.”

My brother is an attorney, and had had recent surgery, so he asked me to drive him to a hearing he had to attend. This was in a different County than where we live. So we looked up the address, and it was 3051 State Street or something like that. But it turns out that the courthouse in Salt Lake City is a 3051 State Street. We are in California. So we set out with plenty of time, but the GPS in his car is relentlessly steering us toward Utah. We finally discover that the GPS is trying to get us into Utah, heading east relentlessly by any means possible. We ended up being late, but the hearing was conducted over Zoom so it was no big deal. But it was kind of funny.

And at night in West Virginia did you knock on someone’s door and ask directions?
