Three elderly men, including two military veterans, were found apparently beaten to death with hammers in the basement of a suspected Detroit drug den, police said.
The bodies of US Marine Corps vets Mark Barnett, 65, and Norman Hamlin, 66, were recovered along with the body of William Barrett 72, in the basement of Hamlin’s home on Edsel Street, Detroit police said.
Although Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald refused to divulge specifics about the grisly scene, he said that all three men were killed by “blunt force trauma,” with at least one of them sustaining additional stab wounds, WDIV Local 4 reported.
Cops had been out searching for Hamlin, who was reported missing, when a person staggered over to them and frantically claimed they’d been beaten with a hammer at a nearby home — where Hamlin reportedly lived.
When officers arrived at Hamlin’s house, they found the three bodies in the basement. All three men appeared to have been “brutally assaulted,” according to Detroit PD.
Their clothes were covered in filth, and one of the bodies was concealed beneath a rug, Fitzgerald said, adding that the house operated as a sort of boarding home that welcomed “a lot of folks” daily.
Horrified neighbors were heartbroken to hear of Hamlin’s death, but not entirely surprised, they told WDIV.

Giving a description is a little unusual.
Detroit has been rather civilized the last few years compared to the days of old, this kind of execution hasn’t been seen for awhile. On the opposite side of the state (west) there is a giant billboard promoting former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan (a 3-termer white guy, go figure) running for WHitler’s open seat coming up.
My dad moved into a senior living facility when he was 81, the other residents called him youngster.
See #5, seen any of these? If James can pull some 15% from Detroit and Flint he’ll win.
Bodies in the trunks of burned-out cars... that’s what was on the local news almost every Sunday night or Monday morning for three months after we moved there in 2011.
For being a Democrat, I have to admit that he did a good job as Detroit mayor. I think he would do a good job as gov.
I can’t remember an (I)-Independent winning a statewide race ever. Duggan should consider switching parties, he’d be better than a lot of local RINOs who sold us out.
Usually “teen” is used
He has a good chance at winning.
If he governs like he “mayored” it might be a refreshing change in Lansing.

It is going to take centuries to repair the damage from Coleman Young. One term took the economic powerhouse of the nation to a third world s hole.
After WWII, Detroit was the greatest city in the world.

I went to Detroit about 10 years ago to help a friend move. I did the Henry Ford tour. Downtown Detroit was quite nice. The architecture is beautiful if you’re in to that. And whitey was rebuilding scrap yards with public gardens. But one or two miles out and holy hell. It looked like a nuke went off, or Africa.
It’s a damn shame.
