An avid New Jersey outdoor buff slipped off a trail and froze to death while hiking New York’s highest peak with her dog — after it took rescuers more than six hours to find her in bitter single-digit temperatures, officials said Wednesday.

Brianna Mohr, 21 — who posted breathtaking Instagram photos of herself on remote adventures — called 911 while clinging to the side of Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks at 3 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

But rescuers couldn’t find Mohr, of Brick, until after 9 p.m., at which point she had died of hypothermia, New York State Police said.

Temperatures in Keene, New York, where the mountain is located, ranged from -8 to 20 degrees that day...

Sounds like she had phone coverage, and they still couldn’t find her. I know my new phone has satellite coverage.

We have a Garmin I reach and use it when camping or hiking.

Since she fell, it may have been just not enough time to get to her.

Probably blamed Trump for her fate right before she went.

There is ice on Mt. Marcy into Memorial Day

Its always wet up there

In January there is 4’ of snow and another 1’ of ice covering it. The article noted the temperatures which are normal for that time of year.

It’s extremely treacherous. She went alone - AND she took her dog???

I don’t think she was properly dressed. She should have been wearing layers of cloths and a parka for temperature like that. I learned that in the Army when we went to arctic WX training. Staying warm for 3 days while cross country skiing and snow shoeing while only having pup tents is definitely a challenge. :-(

Probably too cold to summit Marcy under those conditions. Not smart. Not to mention it’s Winter, the trails are icy and snowy - they don’t plough them. Terrible lack of judgement.

I’ve gone up Algonquin Peak (2nd highest to Mt. marcy) in the Fall, can’t imagine going up these in Winter conditions.

despite calling 911 for help

Exactly. It's not like calling Mr. Wizard for help, especially when you're on a mountain peak.

Help, Mr. Wizard!!! I'm stuck on a mountain ledge in the freezing cold!

Drizzle, Drazzle, Druzzle, Drome,
time for this one to come home!

With due respect, 911 is not a miracle service. If someone is in a remote area, there is a good chance they won't get to them in time. It sounds like that is what happened here. Even in our modern culture, the wilderness still is dangerous. I learned that as a kid who went on a winter campout with a normal sleeping bag. I froze my first night. Luckily, I was with others who gave me a blanket and then I bought a winter bag for the next trip.

She could have taken a boat ride in NY harbor and gotten some nice social media pics. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I wonder if her last Instagram post looked like Hatchet Jack in the movie Jeremiah Johnson.

The key to hiking Madmani’s highest peak in New Yawk is do it in the summer. Global warming will kill ya in the winter.

There is more to New York than New York City. Mt. Marcy is no where near the city.

I bet Madami never even been to the Adirondacks.

It was quite selfish of her to put the lives of the 911 rescuers at risk so she could take some pics of herself to put on the internet.

Spent the night on Algonquin (NY’s 2nd highest) with a previous girlfriend back around 1980...clear night, shadows of the surrounding mountains in the moonlight was eerie...loads of stars. Amazing night.

Yes, I hiked it in Summer, many years ago, and it is really pretty easy hike.
Maybe she got deceived by that.
Adirondacks get really cold and snowy in Winter!
