Canadian women’s curling skip Rachel Homan sounded off Saturday after she had a rock pulled in an 8-7 loss to Switzerland, claiming she was unfairly punished for a ‘double-touching’ controversy involving Canada and Sweden in the men’s draw.
Homan’s first rock of the game was pulled by the umpire, who ruled she touched the granite after releasing the handle. The draw didn’t touch any other stones and it was removed when it came to rest.
Clearly frustrated after losing in an extra end, Homan was asked by reporters if she felt she was being unfairly treated.
“100 per cent,” Homan said. “Without a doubt.”
Canada managed a single in the first end and led 4-0 after three. But Silvana Tirinzoni’s side pulled ahead with a four-point seventh end and won when Alina Paetz drew the button in the 11th.
The loss left Canada with a 1-3 record with five round-robin games to play.

“””While one team is advancing, you know, with the broom, and the guy and, the stone guy, and all that, you have another guy on the ice from the other team with a hairdryer and an extension cord.
OTT: I do think it would be more exciting if the other team was out there trying to stop the guy with the dustmop. That’s, you know, that guy scrubbing the ice on the way down! “””””””””
Hilarious stuff.
Rocks, handles, stones, ends, and draw the button. Wow!
Concur. Curling, like bowling, softball, and golf, loses its charm when sober people do it. That rule probably doesn't apply to Formula One racing...
How is curling even a sport?
I saw ‘Homan’ in the headline and was curious what he had to do with a rock in the Olympics.
Haven’t watched a second of this...American athletes hating on my country can go take a flying leap and the Canadians can follow,
> Curling, like bowling, softball, and golf, loses its charm when sober people do it.
The Beatles movie Help! Includes a scene with curling in which the Beatles were so stoned they could hardly act for laughing.
That is pretty funny.
“Bowling is more of a sport than Curling.”

Krista McCarville (now Sharf, far right) curling team Thunder Bay Ont.

I leave it to all of you doubters to enjoy your WBA screaming matches!
I visualized all kinds of strange combat between the guy with the hair dryer! I thought to ask AI to generate one, but with my limited skills, these were the best it gave me! (I still like to use Photoshop for these things, but for quick and dirty...I do get a hit once in a while with AI)

Good stuff.
That said...we were having a late lunch about an hour ago, and they were doing a segment on the Tkachuk family (American Hockey team players) and their father was a pro player, tough as nails, who gained fame in our circle of fanatical Boston Bruins Hockey Fans for the time he fought the universally despised, and totally chickens**t Claude Lemeiux!) Apparently, Brady Tkachuk was bitten on the finger in a fight by Claude Lemeiux's son. They say it is a family affair between the Tkachuks and Lemieux. I was astonished that Lemeiux had offspring.
Anyway, they had a segment on the boys playing for the American team, and IT WAS AWESOME.
Young men, proud of their country, and saying so. They showed a clip of them when they were little kids maybe six or seven, playing street hockey in the cellar of their house, lined up on the "American side" and singing the National Anthem!
I loved it! Just glorious!
I like watching the curling competitions, but so far this Olympic Games I’ve managed to miss every one.
There we go! :)
One of the first things I liked about curling is it’s one of the few women’s sports at the Olympic where the women are actually women not teenagers. And then I found out the sport is awesome.
I subscribe to Peacock, so I’ve watched a bunch of curling, and other stuff, on the “replay”. I haven’t seen anything live.
And I'd rather skate if I'm going to spend time somewhere cold willingly...
I like it. My wife and I tried to go into a curling club to watch some people play (they have one within hours of where we live) and they declined our courteous request.
We concluded they probably have an open house sometime during the year, but weren’t that interested in trying to keep track of when.
It does look like fun. Olympic sport? Maybe, maybe not. But fun!
LOL, like that pickleball brawl down in Florida!
I saw their mug shots, and I thought "Oh yeah. Pickleball Thugs. He looks like he would be a load of fun in nearly any game."
