First a foot of snow, then the plowed-in cars, and now frustrated New Yorkers are furious over mountains of trash piling up on city streets, as collection has been reduced by January’s massive winter storm.
A reporter from the New York Post took in the “unsavory sights” of the aftermath and documented heaps of garbage bags and cardboard boxes littering the sidewalks as the Department of Sanitation was still playing catch-up in several neighborhoods since the winter onslaught.
Garbage is not the only problem, as snowplows have tended to deposit high banks of the white stuff against cars parked along the curbs.
Actor Michael Rapaport reported on that problem, saying as he posted a video on X Sunday morning showing a car trapped by the filthy snow, “This poor bastard ain’t getting out until the Spring.” …

Jane Byrne had to deal with snow-covered streets in Chicago. When I lived in Pittsburgh, the streets were an afterthought to the gubmint.
They NEED the garbage to feed the rats which will become a prime food source of protein.
Just think how easy the Naked and Afraid people could find their protein in NYC.

Make the NYC denizens a Soylent Green made from NYC rats. Run the rats through a machine that grabs out all the bones and teeth. Pulverize, cook and can what is left. Next year when TSHTF in NYC the canned rat meat will be flying off the shelves.

The garbage will be picked up last in the “whiter” neighborhoods, which Mamdani specifically said will have to “pay more”. At least he admits to his racist genocidal tendencies. If he controlled the delivery of heating oil he could implement the genocide, do you think he would? Just freeze the upper east side to death and claim this was part of his social justice program? Would Stalin have done that? Remember the Holodomor.

Born and raised in NYC and been through a lot of snowstorms in the city. I dont like Mamdani, but in his defense, this isnt an illustration of his incompetence. This has nothing to do with him. This is what always happened after a snowstorm.
The city plows the streets, pushing the snow up against the parked cars and garbage cans. Garbage doesnt get picked up because the garbage men cant get to it. Its an impossibility for the city to shovel out each individual parked car, garbage cans, and the sidewalks. So, its the responsibility of every property owner to clear the snow from the sidewalks in front of their properties and dig out their own cars and clear a path to their garbage to make it possible to be collected.
Meanwhile, like his decedents, he didn’t bathe, let his family starve, and leached off of others.
A former NYC mayor once observed that NYC elections are dictated by snowplows and garbage removal. Everything else can be overlooked, but if you screw up one or both of those things, you are toast.
Back in the 90s, I heard (the great) Jay Diamond describing a scene he witnessed from a window in his apartment. Some Department of Sanitation guys were fooling around with a backhoe, while they were supposed to be clearing a parking lot. He was laughing in his delightful, manner, like a teenager, as he described them burying a guy (one of their co-workers) in the snow, and then when he tried to get out, dumping more snow on him. he said they were all laughing, even the guy they were dumping the snow on. Such a classic New York scene. Maybe they all (the sanitation guys) grew up together in Queens.
Actually, I would not have thought a foot of snow is all that uncommon for NYC.
I do remember being stationed in Rantoul, ILL in the 1970s. It snowed about 6" every weekend, the snow plows would come by and clear the roads but my car would be blocked by a 3-4 foot mound of snow that had to be dug out (back onto the road). Good thing I was young.
Noo Yawkers should give the EPA a call, to force a cleanup.
That’s how it is in Chicago. You shovel your car out from the curb and place some crappy furniture in the space so it’s clear when you get back. Woe be to anyone who tries to take the spot. Surprisingly, it works most of the time.
